Damon's tax-cutting remarks December 2, 2004

BANKING ON KERRY Actor Matt Damon tells Diane Sawyer tonight that supporting John Kerry was, "financially, the stupidest thing that [he] could do," but the election was about more than money. Interviewed with his "Ocean's Twelve" costars on "Primetime Live," Damon says he doesn't need or want the fat tax break he's getting from the Bush administration. "I personally would like to give millions of dollars back," he says. "This guy -- this president -- is giving me millions of dollars. Do you think I need that?" (No, as a matter of fact, we don't.) Damon also credits his parents for instilling a strong work ethic in their kids: "My mother, because she was a professor . . . never made as much money as she deserved to make, but she loved what she did. And my father, who went and took a job to make enough money to provide for us, but never loved his job," he said. "So both of them said, 'Boys, whatever you do, make sure that you love to do it. Unless you have children to provide for, in which case you have to suck it up and . . . do whatever you need to do.' "

If he's serious, the treasury will gladly accept those millions by check.

Its more than financially stupid. Did Damon say he would leave America too like the rest of Hollywood?

I always find morons more interesting and tolerable when they avoid talking.

"I personally would like to give millions of dollars back,"

How hard can it be to seek out hospitals and homeless shelters in need of money?

"And always remember, son, if you do succeed, insist that all your money go to the government. They will always spend it better than you could, my son."

More loudmouth blather from the leftist gliteratti. If they all would give back their extra millions, we'd all be better off. He is so full of his own excrement.

As Zell Miller said about Maureen Dowd (aka Maureen Loud):

The more they talk, the redder those states get.

Keep talking....

He doesn't even have to do that. The instructions that come with form 1040 state specifically that if you want to help pay the debt to enclose a seperate check with your return. This jackass should do that with these millions otherwise he's just another lying liberal.

Matt Damon is full of beans. If he wants to give more of his money to the federal government he can do so by writing a check to the Bureau of Public Debt. The fact that he hasn't done so places him in same category as all the other whining liberals here in Massachusetts who wanted to keep the tax rate at 5.65% yet refuse to check the voluntary box to tax themselves at that rate rather than 5.30%.

Definition: Liberal -- a person who wants to be a philanthropist with someone else's money.

Here's a web site for the Bureau of Public Debt:

http://www.publicdebt.treas.gov/opd/opdgift.htm

where you can see how few people give more money to the government even though many like Matt Damon talk about doing so.

Precisely!

How can they look in the camera and say such stupid things?!?! Give it back! Make an example of yourself. Same with Springsteen and so many others that said they don't need it.

If you are so smart and have so much, start a program to help a church, shelter or public school.

Just saw a preview for Hannity and Colmes and this story about Damon is going to be on their show tonight.

I would be ashamed to go on national TV and COMPLAIN about making too much money, when the candidate I was backing was always talking about all of the poor, starved, w/o health care children in America. Don' t these people even THINK about how these statements sound?

I wouldn't give a penney to watch one minute of any movie of his anymore---he obviously doesn't need my money!!

"I personally would like to give millions of dollars back," he says. "This guy -- this president -- is giving me millions of dollars. Do you think I need that?"

Is this Damon's idea of revealing his character? That would be better done by not signing deals worth obscene amounts of money.

If he really wants to make himself feel good he can bypass the govt. and donate the money directly to the cause or charity of his choice. If he wants to feel really good about himself he doesn't even need to claim it for the purpose of deductions.

I also love how he is so narcissistic that they think the PRESIDENT sits down and decides to give MATT DAMON a tax break.

They have no understanding of the tax code and think the world revolves around them.

If I'm not mistaken, Damon can choose the higher tax. It's really not that hard. Matt, if you need help, I'm sure there are lots of FReepers out here who have contacts...

Also I found it VERY telling that his mother was a professor. Oh and of course ALL professors are SOOO underpaid for the "important" work they do.... wah wah wah
