The three major TV networks have banned the United Church of Christ's first national ad - a message on behalf of tolerance - because it's "too controversial."
CBS explained: "Because this commercial touches on the exclusion of gay couples and other minority groups by other individuals and organizations ... this spot is unacceptable for broadcast."
The ad depicts two bouncers behind a velvet rope at the front of a church, turning away visitors - including gay couples - like doormen at a nightclub. The 30-second spot ends with the slogan "Jesus didn't turn people away. Neither do we."

Someone from UCC was just on Hardball...opposite Jerry Falwell.
UCC has repealed the concept of sin.
Is that big mouth Chrissie shouting down Jerry?
Tim Russert had Jerry Falwell on his program recently. He must be the evangelical the media love to hate. On the other side, some leftist from Sojourners and Al "the charlatan" Sharpton.
Moneychangers? Come on in and take a pew!
What the ad says to me is that they believe if you don't oppenly embrace homosexuality then you are not a "real" Christian.
They have obviously forgotton the "hate the sin" part of "love the sinner and hate the sin".
My understanding of the UCC is that it's a sin to believe there is such a thing as sin.
Amazing how anyone can look deep into Scripture and get the "Historical Jesus" or the "Real Jesus" to do anything they'd like him to do. This is especially true if they wish to ignore 4000 years of religious and moral teachings, of which he was a part.
Frankly, I'm surprised that they didn't claim that Jesus and the Apostles were gay (heard that one before).
Tim
That's essentially the "religious left" democrats are hoping to tap in 2008.
IIRC - Jesus only turned away those he couldn't heal. (think about it)
I wasn't paying that much attention...can't stand Matthews...had it on closed-caption as I listened to Mark Levin on the radio...
No He didn't turn any away but he told them to "go and sin no more."
At the little Christian Church/Disciples of Christ college in my town, a religion professor has taught that the story of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples signified that Christ was homosexual. No one at the college contradicted her.
The worst part about the ad is that it is blatantly racist.
No offense to the ladies of FR, but many of these women parading around as theologians are quite nuts.
Couldn't and wouldn't is two different things.
Another sign of how unhinged the Left has become.
How utterly arrogant for one church to run TV ads
condemning another church!
As a lifelong Congregationalist, I have had issues with the UCC for years, namely that it supposedly promotes diversity and tolerance. However, the UCC has consistently tilted "too far left." Several years ago, our minister, a lib, said that many in the UCC, namely women, refuse to acknowledge "Our Father....." which they felt was sexist. Blahhhhhhhhhhh! It is true that the UCC championed civil rights and womens rights years ago, but has not been lockstep with everyone in its fold. I still value and relish my Congregational roots, but as for the UCC.......I just don't know........
