The Ball this time is scheduled differently than in 2001, which ended at 11pm. Freepers weren't ready to go home when that Ball ended, so many people went to the Hotel Bar to continue visiting with their new real-life friends.
This time Jim, Kristinn and Angelwood decided to extend the Ball's hours until midnight. I'm sure that many people will still want the night to go on forever, so I expect folks will still filter over to the Hotel Bar afterwards.
