I understand it is the only smoking area.

How...unusual.

No hotels that I know of in D.C. allow smoking in their ballrooms or meeting rooms. In 2001, the Wyndham Washington made smokers go downstairs to the overflow room to smoke. This time, that option was gone and smokers would have had to go a hotel bar on a different floor.

The Washington Plaza's lounge is so close to the Ball action you won't feel put out stepping over to it to light up.

BTW, a hotel's smoking policy was not a deciding factor in which venue we chose. All of them offered to make arrangements so that smokers could smoke indoors.

I think I misunderstood you.

There will be "Bar Stations" in our Ball areas. The hotel's public bar is where we go to smoke - it'll be the Freeper smoking lounge for the evening.

I guess we'll be seeing one another in the smoking lounge throughout the course of the evening.

:-)
