"When a country of 42 Million has a military of 10,000, it isn't even window dressing. You have fewer soldiersthan there are cops in New York City.

I agree, we can do more. However, let's look up the facts before posting:

DND/CF

"More than 1,400 Canadian soldiers, sailors and Air Force personnel are deployed overseas on operational missions. On any given day, about 8,000 Canadian Forces members - one third of our deployable force - are preparing for, engaged in or returning from an overseas mission."

Deployable force: 24,000

Population of Canada: 31,946,316 (July 2004)

NYPD: 39,110 officers

How many police officers are there in NYPD? There are currently 39,110 police officers in NYPD. This is the total number of Police Officers, Detectives, Sergeants, Lieutenants, Captains, Deputy Inspectors, Inspectors, Deputy Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, and Bureau Chiefs budgeted for fiscal year 2003.

"could do better?" That is the understatement of the year.

OK, the numbers are off, but there are still more NYPD cops than Canadian military. NYPD patrols a CITY! Do you realize New York City could invade and defeat the entire country of Canada? (We know you guys ain't got no guns). If you think a couple of trappers are going to pull blunderbusses from the mantle in their log cabins will help you, then we would only have to get the upstate NY hunters (with precision high-tech rifles) to even that out.

We are carrying your water and you don't even have the pretense of being self-reliant. By comparison, France with a population of ~59 million has apx. 140,000 troops, compared with your admitted 24,000.

I can't believe you would post these numbers PROUDLY as if they somehow help your argument.

How do you guys shave knowing someone else is doing all your work? I wouldn't even be able to go out in the street if I knew that someone else was totally responsible for watching over me like a 1-year old in a bassinet.
