Jurors face difficult decision over Scott Peterson's fate

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — If the experience of those involved in past death penalty cases is any guide, the jurors in Scott Peterson's murder trial will have to grapple with raw and deep religious, moral and legal issues as they decide whether he lives or dies.

Arguments in the penalty phase are scheduled to begin Tuesday, but experts say many of the jurors may already have made up their minds about what punishment the 32-year-old former fertilizer salesman deserves.

In 2001, a California jury faced a case that holds some similarities to the Peterson trial. Todd Garton was a philandering husband convicted of the shocking murder of his young and very pregnant wife. Jurors said he deserved to die.

"I signed the document that the jury found for death and I think about that a lot," said Fred Castagna, who served as jury foreman. "It was emotional during deliberations, but I don't lose sleep over it."

No way. Really?
Man, he has no heart at all.
He must have really hated Laci.

Only that he got red in his neck...Laura Ingles was sitting right behind him. She could see him smiling at the pics of Laci at Brents wedding....Saw him look down at one point when Sharon was shreeking at him.
No emotion from the Petersons.
The rest of the courtroom was on the floor in tears..according to Larua's report on KFI.
Riviting....I was listening all night.
Laura was very emotional.

In order to be eligible to serve on a jury of a possible death penalty trial one must state under oath that they could find that sentence if the defendant is convicted. If it is this hard, they should not be on the jury.

A little red in the neck, huh?
NOTHING ELSE!
He's a monster.

I dread trying to think of what his wicked mother will say.

Sharon was FULL THROTTLE RAGE AND GRIEF today.
I'm so glad she showed the jury her rage and anger she has towards the murderer today.
She had to bury her daughter w/o arms to hold her baby with...her words to the monster in court today.
Can you live with that???
It would haunt me....

I do not know HOW I never thought about
the RAGE Sharon is feeling. I was too
hung up on the grief and heart break.

When I read this thread and then watched
Greta's program tonight, I knew I had overlooked
the key element: RAGE.

What a dunce I have been. Of course Sharon would
be enraged! I would too in her place.

OMG!! That's a powerful statement: "She was buried with her baby but she didn't even have arms to hold him"!! What a knife through the heart that is to a NORMAL person!!

Heading to bed, today just sucked out all of my energy

I agree. This is an emotial Christmas for me anyways as I have been going through family pictures and little momentos that I divided up and giving to my 2 sons while I am still alive...So like Sharon I am reliving alot of memories from relatives passed away...At least they all lived to an old age and not taken out at the beginning of their life like Laci...If I were Sharon I might end up in jail.....I want to slap that HB right off his smirky faced seat...Justice will be done but can't help to feel if justice were really done Laci and Conner would be alive and well...Wonder what circus trick Geragos is going to do tomorrow??
