MONTROSE, Colo. - NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol survived a charter plane crash on takeoff Sunday at Montrose Regional Airport, the network said in a statement through its Denver affiliate KUSA-TV.
At least two people — the pilot and the co-pilot — died in the crash, according to the network.
Ebersol and two other people were seriously injured, and rescuers were searching for a person listed on the plane’s manifest whose seat from the plane was missing from the wreckage.

Then, I heard there were three people dead, Ebersol and son in the hospital, son Teddy missing.
Then I heard the two pilots and the stewardess were dead, Ebersol and Charlie in hospital and Teddy presumed dead. These are all reports during the noon hour on different stations and the internet...I realize we won't know the cause for awhile but does anyone know for certain the condition of the people involved?

That was what I was just reading (about co-pilot surviving) which is interesting because that makes it appear that the survivors weren't necessarily in the back half of the plane as it sounded originally (making sense with the 14 year old possibly being in the fourth row)...since the co-pilot survived, and one would think the co-pilot would be upfront, at least for take off/landings? Just amazing the co-pilot has survived (although I realize it also says he's in critical condition) based on the initial eyewitness reports! Continued prayers...
Jet, no derate possible, balanced field length. The pilots knew the drill. Let's see what NTSB says first before trying to second guess the victims.
You'd think this plane crash happened in North Korea the way the details are coming out. There has been one conflicting report after another. As best I can figure out, there were six passengers on the plane - the pilot and a flight attendant were killed, the co-pilot was taken to a burn center and is in critical condition, Dick Ebersol and his son, Charlie survived and seem to be stable, and his son Teddy is still missing and presumed dead.
It must have been so horrible for the family of the co-pilot to have heard the initial wire reports that he had been killed too.
Balanced field length. Go get your multi add on and you'll see how this works. Based on weight, I imagine that the plane had a BFL of 6000'.
Whether it's because of standards or something else, the bottom line is that ND is simply not getting the same calibre of players that they used to. Over the past 10 years, they've had just 10 players selected in the Top 2 rounds of the NFL draft. In the previous 10 years, they had 25 such players. They haven't had an offensive skill position player go in the first round since 1993 (Mirer and Bettis).
I think it's more likely that somehow both the pilot and co-pilot were ejected somehow when the cockpit became detached. One of the early reports referred to on this thread indicated that an eyewitness came upon a man near the wreckage who was banged up severely with bones protruding from his collar and leg (sorry for being graphic). It said as the eyewitness approached him he took one last breath and died. Who knows how reliable or accurate that account is. I'm assuming that was the pilot and the co-pilot must have been found in the same general area.

I agree. Perhaps the people who need to know have all the right information. It is just gut-wrenching...I keep praying they will find the 14 year old. So sad.
I'm still praying but it all sounds ominous. It would be difficult for anyone to survive a crash and those freezing cold temperatures. Hopefully they can find him soon so that the family can have closure one way or another.
Heard on FNC a few minutes ago, the search has been called off for the missing teenager.
Very sad ending. I'm so sorry for his family.

Father Malloy offers condolences to Ebersol family By: Dennis K. Brown Date: November 29, 2004 Rev. Edward A. Malloy, C.S.C., president of the University of Notre Dame, extended his condolences to the family of NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol on the death of his son Teddy.
"The Ebersols have been longtime friends of the University and we are deeply saddened by their loss," Father Malloy said. "We pray for a full recovery for Dick and Charlie Ebersol, and ask God’s grace on their family."
The Ebersols were involved in a plane crash Sunday in southwest Colorado in which 14-year-old Teddy died. The plane was bound for South Bend, where Charlie Ebersol is a senior at Notre Dame.
Dick Ebersol has worked closely with Notre Dame administrators during the last 13 years on the broadcast of Notre Dame home football games on NBC.
Very sad indeed. Prayers to the Ebersol family and the other victims of this tragedy.
