Arezzo, Italy, Nov 27 - The government reforms in the centre-right parties will give young adults more opportunities, said the prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi.
He sent a message to the third political training workshop for young Forza Italia party members, being held in Arezzo. It was read out by the spokesman for national co-ordination, Elisabetta Gardini. "Our government", wrote Berlusconi, "has passed some very important reforms to do with restructuring the 'understanding' between the different generations of our country.
There has been progress in laws concerning schools, labour and pensions. These contribute towards opening doors to even very young people, offering them better opportunities for training, entering the labour market, and better security for the future".
In his message, the prime minister pointed out that even abolishing military service "was not only conceived and put into practice to free Italian boys from what basically amounts to a type of 'tax', but also to create new job opportunities through forming a professional army.
This will enable Italy to rely on a more efficient defence strategy, as well as fighting terrorism through peaceful and armed operations". Then Berlusconi pointed out that even changes to the Constitution "gave some important signals to the younger generations".
He recalled that, "We have removed barriers to young adults who want to go into politics by lowering the minimum age for entering parliament from 25 to 21 and from 40 to 25 for those wanting to go into the Senate". In other words, the Premier was inviting young Italians to "look at the real significance of these changes and progress" and to "be representatives in the Forza Italia party and in Italian society of the values and the objectives in which we believe. "I am entrusting you with the future both of Forza Italia and of our country," he concluded. (AGI) - 271521 NOV 04
Italian Government OKs Income Tax Cuts (pushed by Berlusconi)
More on Berlusconi taking the bull by the horns.
Berlusconi would be really great if he quit insisting on dictatorial control of the press.
Very nice. Thanks. Nice to see hope in SOME quarters of Europe anyway!
