I've always been inclined to cut Juan a break as he was the one honest lib who during the Clarence Thomas smear 15 years ago called it for what it was. Futhermore, he did so on the opinion page of the Washington Post. People were calling him trying to get dirt on Thomas and he was repulsed at what to him seemed an orchestrated smear campaign.
I remember that column as well, with Juan talking about the utter contempt he had for those digging for dirt to smear Thomas. Good call.
