It's the author of this self-congratulting article who doesn't get it. If the result of the pajamahadeens efforts is a more responsible and accurate press, their work has been a success.

solid, stolid mainstream journalism.

delusional - hasn't existed in decades - although I am sure he believes that globalist crank cronkite is a "man for the ages"

Exactly. Since the professional press has failed in their responsibility to present accurate, unbiased, fair and balanced coverage of the news, the bloggerdom has arisen to be a watchdog on the MSM. This will fill the void left by irresponsible press coverage.

Exactly. We're trying to shape the market, not kill it.

Apparently, every public institution can thrive with criticism and watchdogs except the MSM.

You guys have been on the welfare of the public's unquestioning acceptance for too long. Time to get in shape.

This leftist is upset that his propaganda is no longer swallowed without question!

bloggers have no checks and balances.

Uhmmmm. We ARE the check and balance on the liars that we call the MSM. That's why propagandists like Rather are FINALLY crashing and burning. After over a dozen years of spreading propaganda.

It's about time.

Bingo. And the ironic thing is that the role of the "free press" was to keep government honest. When the press began to not only try to keep government honest but to INFLUENCE outcomes with biased one-sided reporting, alternate news sources were born. THEIR role is to keep the MSM honest.

Honest truth: the odds of that actually happening are what, 1 in a million? We should recognize what we're doing: The MSM has become so opinionated and inflexible that we are destroying it by attacking. We're replacing news organs like the NYT and WP with net-based commentary akin to the Village Voice on the left and the National Review on the right. The center has not held, and it is giving way to chaos. Fox News is conventional warfare; blogs and bbs are guerilla warfare, and will result in anarchy.

So why do I support blogs and bbs? Because anarchy is better than the current police state. (And please, I am using "police state" as an analogy.)
