LOS ANGELES - For relatives and friends of U.S. troops serving in Iraq, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" was the place to be. Studio audience members, all with a military connection, were surprised with the gift of a free cruise at a taping Tuesday. The episode of the syndicated talk show, with guest Tom Hanks, aired Wednesday.
A total of 250 seven-day cruises for four, along with taxes and fees, were given in appreciation of troops deployed from three California bases: Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Camp Pendleton and Fort Irwin.
Celebrity Cruises is providing the vacations, available at any time to allow for troops overseas to take part on their return, according to a spokeswoman for the show.
DeGeneres also joined with the USO to send more than 5,000 care packages to the audience's relatives and friends in Iraq. The episode will be repeated on Thanksgiving on the Armed Forces Network.
Now I am gone from this thread.
Her lifestyle would not be an issue at all, had she not made such a big deal out of it.
In addition, she's Hollywood, and they, by and large cannot be trusted because the majority of them are extreme leftists.
It's remotely possible that she just cares about the troops, but I would say I'm highly skeptical about it.
I am not homophobic (as some have alluded this position makes you), but she has made her lifestyle a point of public conversation, and the pressure from the left is always to gradually make you accept things that are just plain wrong.
At this point, a skeptical wait and see attitude is what I have.
I know she's a funny lady, and if she just does good humor, makes nothing of her lifestyle (i.e. sin), and gives good solid entertainment to our troops who NEED it, I'll say, OK.
Exactly what have I said on this thread that would have offended God? Please be specific.
So it's ok to tell someone how to practice their faith but we can't tell someone else (Ellen Degeneres) how to behave according to God's law?
I wouldn't get aggravated over a homophobe.....just enjoy your Thanksgiving. There are many of us who know the lady is very talented and funny.
I do not agree with her living life as a gay woman, nor do I appreciate her being a "spokesperson" for that type of life.
Nowhere is there a mention of her lesbianism in this article. She did a good thing. Doesn't mean she isn't wrong in other areas, but in THIS one thing, she behaved correctly. And I still prefer her doing this to Michael Moore, a heterosexual, undermining our troops at every turn.
I wish you a lovely Thanksgiving.
Actually, she IS a good comedienne. I went to see her once before she became famous/infamous and she had the audience roaring with laughter. She has great comedic timing and delivery.
See my post above.
Although I will do as you say, and watch carefully for the old Trojan Horse trick. For now I will hope she is doinghtis for altruistic reasons.
Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Chiming in with my two cents. She's incredibly funny and I truly admire her for this gift.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I thought that she was very funny, at least her TV show was (I never saw her stand-up act) until the show began to focus on her being a lesbian.
I thought that she was terrific as the voice of Dory in "Finding Nemo."

Rats! Now I've got that song stuck in my head again! lol

For what it's worth, I just visited the USO Cares web site to send a Care package to the troops, and the "Ellen Degeneres Show" was listed as a major sponosr of USO Cares on the front page. Thanks Ellen!
why do you post your replies in that teeny tiny font? It takes effort on your part to post that way, and it requires extra effort from us to read it. What gives?
agree Bonfire. I liked her show before it got to be all gay, all the time - it was plain funny before that, and then she was sort of just stupid with Anne Heche, but I've been watching her show lately, and I like her humor. I don't care if people are gay or not as long as I dont have to hear about it day and night.
You are so wrong. Her show Ellen was on for at least 4 years before she even came out. And her talk show has been on almost 2 years. So how is that failing?
Geez, you must think FReepers are really naive.
I can be opposed to gay marriage and still have no negative feelings towards gay people.
It had miserable ratings. She had to pull the "coming out of the closet" stunt to try to save it and it failed. In case you hadn't noticed the networks will bend over backwards to accomodate homosexuals. Nearly every sitcom features a homosexual. The general public didn't think she was funny as evidenced by the ratings.
And so does your ignorance.
No way. When I smell a wolf in the henhouse, I'm ready to attack the wolf.
