LOS ANGELES - For relatives and friends of U.S. troops serving in Iraq, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" was the place to be. Studio audience members, all with a military connection, were surprised with the gift of a free cruise at a taping Tuesday. The episode of the syndicated talk show, with guest Tom Hanks, aired Wednesday.
A total of 250 seven-day cruises for four, along with taxes and fees, were given in appreciation of troops deployed from three California bases: Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Camp Pendleton and Fort Irwin.
Celebrity Cruises is providing the vacations, available at any time to allow for troops overseas to take part on their return, according to a spokeswoman for the show.
DeGeneres also joined with the USO to send more than 5,000 care packages to the audience's relatives and friends in Iraq. The episode will be repeated on Thanksgiving on the Armed Forces Network.
I don't hate anybody. She's not funny and she made a huge deal about announcing her sexual preference on a sit com. She is the one who made the big deal about her lesbianism - not me.
Happy Thanksgiving, Deacon.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Anna.
We miss you over at ATF Night. :-(
A whole lotta arguing over something which is subjective.
:)
What's so clean about announcing one's sexual perversions on a prime time sit com?
She's had two shows. One ran for several years; the current one is still running.
You can't get past her lesbianism. Do you think Bill Cosby is funny, or can't you get past the color of his skin?
10? Better go back and count again.
I only know of one other show she was in before her talk show. Her talk show seems to do well, as far as I know. But really.....what does this have to do with this thread??
Oy...how is the new little miss angel?
So what if she is a lesbian, why is that being made a part of the issue here?. Good on her for hooking our troops up...too bad more people aren't doing things like that for the most deserving of our society.

She actually never, ever references her sexuality (she assumes we know it already).
There are (relax) Nuances (hey, relax), but she's really kinda shapin' up to be our Conservative Gay Poster Host.
She's worth admiring. And I think she's working to be in the middle.
When somebody does allright, I applaud it. Fair is fair. Anything less would be uncivilized.

The conservative movement is a diverse one, that's for sure. I personally don't have a problem with her being a lesbian. To me there are much more important fish to fry, such as abortion (which I am totally against) and gun rights (which I am totally for). Oh, and the whole "let's kick terrorist ass" thing. LOL!
He and Mo and Steve Carell are missed.
Wrong. She came out on her sit com. Can't get any more public than that.
I regard her as a bellwether.
Plus, Houston is almighty-cute.
This kind of crap comes from liberal college professors. I never even came close to saying I hate her. Liberals cannot discern the diffeence between hating the sin and loving the sinner.
It's not as if her sexual preference were dug up by some reporter who outed her. SHE decided to come out on her TV show. SHE decided to make that character in her TV a lesbian. SHE is the one who kisses kd Lang open mouth at the lesbian awards show. SHE is the one who showed up with her girfriend Ann Heche at many of the Hollywood red carpet events.
She is publicly flaunting sinful behavior. That is wrong. That is not good for society. It's all fine and dandy that she gives away cruises which were paid for by someone else, but it doesn't change the fact that she is a very public person and she is sending the wrong message.
Would you spend time here defending Larry Flynt or Hugh Hefner if they were the one's that handed over the cruises (which were paid by someone else)?
I remember back in the 1970s when it was difficult to get an Am Ex Gold Card. My father took pride in his. The card meant that "one had arrived."
Now, everyone's handing out "gold" and even "platinum" cards like it's candy.
She was (cleanly) hilarious in her standup before her "announcment" and she's been (cleanly) hilarious afterwards. Her announcement phase was unfunny mostly because it was preachy and now she's over it.
I enjoy her work, and don't give a hoot what she does with whom in her spare time, as long as she doesn't bore me with it (which now she doesn't).
I'm no fan of libs, but she seems like a sweet kid regardless. She's no Baldwin. And I really liked her in Finding Nemo.
"Hollywood turned out in force to support Michael Moore at a special screening of his controversial new documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 on Tuesday. Actors Martin Sheen, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen DeGeneres, David Duchovny, Sharon Stone, Meg Ryan, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Jodie Foster, Drew Barrymore, Chris Rock, Jack Black, Matthew Perry, Diane Lane, Marisa Tomei and Viggo Mortensen all attended the showing at the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences Theater in Los Angeles. Moore's film criticizes American president George W Bush's behavior following the September 11th terror attacks in Washington D.C. and New York and exposes links between Bush's family and Al-qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden's relatives.
