If a mono-culture is one in which everyone agrees that beheadings, stonings, and female mutilation (as well as the old streetgang-joining, and academic nonperforming) are all undesirable behaviors, then I'll take "mono-culture".

America has never been a mono-culture. It absorbs other cultures. You could argue that it waters them down, but that's what we do. Fifty years ago Taco Bell didn't exist. Neither did Pizza Hut. These were considered "exotic" foods. The same is true for all aspects of an assimilating culture...

No, a mono-culture would be one in which everyone agrees that beheadings, stonings, and female mutilation (as well as the old streetgang-joining, and academic nonperforming) are all desirable behaviors --- as in Taliban-run Afghanistan

Do note that I'm NOT saying they should not assimilate, I just object to the enforcing of an 'official' language. It seems to smack of what Franco did when he imposed Castilian on all of Spain
