Report: Foreign-born population tops 34M

WASHINGTON (AP) - More than 34 million U.S. residents were born outside the United States, with arrivals from Mexico driving much of the growth in the foreign-born population since 2000, a private research group says.

The foreign-born population grew at a clip of over 1 million a year between 2000 and 2004, even though the U.S. economy was suffering, according to the analysis being released Tuesday by the Center for Immigration Studies, which favors stricter immigration policies.

That pace was roughly equal to the growth rate between 1996 and 2000, when the economy was on the upswing.

It is more evidence that stricter immigration enforcement after the Sept. 11 attacks did little to stop the influx of immigrants, said Steve Camarota, who wrote the report. Often the worst of economic conditions in America are still better than the financial situations in an immigrant's native country.

Oh.. OK..

Geez, I guess that sarcasm tags are needed. I was describing the attitude taken by the MSM and political class to keep the issue from being discussed. That 34 million are foreign born is absolutely wonderful, (then why not 50 milllion?) and to think anything otherwise is dismissed as as "racist". Get it?

It may feel like they are all in California, but this is happening in almost every state. In So. Oregon if you are not bilingual, you won't get most jobs. The property values have fallen in neighborhoods where the illegals have moved in.

Last week the Secty. of Defense had this to say:

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0411/16/ldt.01.html

DOBBS: Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is warning of the threat of terrorists entering this country through the same routes as those used by illegal aliens. Secretary Rumsfeld, traveling in South America, warned that enemies look for weaknesses and take advantage of them.

DONALD RUMSFELD, SECRETARY OF DEFENSE: The risk is that some of these human-smuggling routes into our country from this hemisphere could be used just as easily for terrorists.

DOBBS: And three million illegal aliens are estimated to be entering this country this year.

Secretary Rumsfeld also said the United States has to be, as he put it, smarter and quicker in securing our borders. The federal government's failure to secure those borders is leading individual states to take action. Arizona's Proposition 200, which limits state benefits for illegals, passed overwhelmingly two weeks ago. Now at least half a dozen other states are considering similar measures.

"God help us."

He's tried - but we won't let Him.
In Deuteronomy Ch 6, He warned His people if they strayed from seeking His righteousness, His anger would be kindled against them and He'd wipe them from the face of the earth (V 15).

Our society has, in part, accepted abortion. America's birthrate among US citizens currently isn't enough to sustain the current population, falling below the 2.66 children/household.

And we're still ignorantly blind. We're so ambivolent, we can't or won't enforce our laws for fear of "offending".

But God's judgements are true and just.

"I wonder what the tab to the American taxpayer is for these foreign borns? "

Here's a bit on that. It will be nothing compared to what it will cost when all the illegals start getting Social Security benefits, as requested by The Bush Administration.

Totalization: Sellout of American Workers

by Phyllis Schlafly
Nov. 17, 2004
The Democrats are trying to make a campaign issue out of George W. Bush's alleged plan to "privatize" Social Security, scaring seniors into thinking their checks will be cut off. That is a phony issue; all Bush suggests is to offer younger workers the option (not the compulsion) of transferring a very small part of their Social Security benefit into private investments.

The real threat to Social Security doesn't come from giving young people this opportunity. The threat comes from the Bush Administration's plan to load illegal aliens into the Social Security system, an idea that would skyrocket costs and bankrupt the system at the same time that baby boomers flood into their benefit years.

The code word for this racket is "totalization." The United States has totalization agreements with 20 other countries, which have been reasonable and non-controversial, but totalization with Mexico is TOTALLY different. ~snip

Illegal Immigrants' Cost to Government Studied

By Mary Fitzgerald
Washington Post Staff Writer

A report that found that illegal immigrants in the United States cost the federal government more than $10 billion a year -- a sum it estimated would almost triple if they were given amnesty -- has drawn criticism from immigration advocacy groups.

For its report, the Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington-based group that advocates tougher immigration policies, used Census Bureau figures to compare the revenue that illegal immigrants contribute through taxes with the cost of government services they use.

~snip~

"Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per illegal household," said Steven A. Camarota, author of the study.

The costs outlined in the report include government services such as Medicaid, medical treatment for the uninsured, food assistance programs, the federal prison and court systems, and federal aid to schools.
It also pointed out that tax payments by illegal-immigrant households constitute one-fourth those of other households because of low-snip
