A private plane crashed near Houston's Hobby Airport Monday. And it was a plane that was coming to Houston to transport former President Bush to a conference in Equador.
The plane went down Monday morning near Highway 288 and Beltway 8.
Former President Bush suspendeded his trip to Ecuador because of the crash. A conference organizer says the plane should have flown the ex-president from Houston. Houston District Fire Chief Jack Williams said that the twin-engine Gulfstream jet arriving from Dallas Love Field apparently clipped a tall light tower at a Beltway 8 toll plaza, shearing off a wing. He says the severed wing rests near the base of the tower.
Authorities have shut down Beltway 8 on both directions near Cullen. There is debris scattered across the lanes. Traffic is being directed off the Beltway and onto Cullen Road and Telephone Road.
Fire crews were able to douse the flames. Three people were on board. All three victims, two men and a woman, have been recovered. There were no survivors.
There are some reports of cars have suffered damage from debris, but no injuries on the ground have been reported.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Roland Herwig says the Gulfstream jet went down about 6:15am, one-and-a-half miles south of Houston's Hobby Airport.
Herwig says the Gulfstream G-1159-A flight originated at Dallas Love Field. He says the plane's registered owner is Jet Place Incorporated of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Houston Fire Department assistant chief, Rick Flanagan, said a part of the jet's wing was located near the base of one of the light poles. He said that the wreckage extended about 1,000 yards from the pole into a field.
Airport officials reported that the plane that was on approach to Hobby when it went down. There was a lot of fog and mist during the crash. There's no official word if that played a role in the fatal crash.
Well, the Gods were certainly with us today.
The Bush family has way better luck than the Kennedys.
He was about a mile and a half from the runway, and he clipped the lightpole on the freeway. It was a tall lightpole, but there's no way he should have been that low that far out.
Usually when you are being handed off from sector to sector, the crew is advised of the new altimeter setting.
737, 738 whtever it takes
C5 C6 whatever it takes lol
"Sad to say, pilot probably wasn't aligned on localizer (left/right of runway)."
If he had been aligned with the localizer from the ILS system both vertical and horizontal he should have had enough altitude to avoid any obstacles.
You're probably correct.
Absolutely. I'm just speculating as to a possible cause. I wonder if Gulfstream's have black boxes.
If it were foul play wouldn't it have been arranged for AFTER 41 on board?
Looks like our resident experts think it was an accident--my friend in Houston said the fog was terrible.
Uh-oh...must don tinfoil hat now.
"Oddly, a thread was posted a while ago concerning a rumor of a plane crash, Columbia, and former President Bush. I suspect it was pulled for a lack of source, but it does prove that freepers are on the ball."
The poor person who posted that knew one of the flight attendants who worked that plane. She (?) had gotten a call from the woman's daughter. It is very sad to hear that this is true.
OMG!!!
Laz, why does God care whether you use a different ASCII representation of his name?
Why'd you guys (and/or) gals pull the thread referenced in #41? Seems like you quashed an FR scoop here.
I'm sorry for the 3 people who lost their lives, but I am so thankful that the Lord saved Bush Senior.
I posted the one that was pulled. I didn't have all the information at the time. Our friend died in the crash in Houston that was supposed to pick up Pres. Bush 41. Prayers, please.
Why is the ex-President Bush's life more important than the poor souls who did die. Can we please pray for them and their families?
He just does. Says so in the user manual.
Was this your "possible vanity" thread that was pulled?
You all will be in my prayers. This is so sad. Thanks for posting.
