He fought Piston fans in the stands at the end of a basketball game.

Here's the breaking thread with 850 replies

Are you saying that NBA players aren't in need a little discipline? Give me a break.

But what did he do to acknowledge him here on these threads. Did he find a cure for stroke?

Free Republic has threads on a VARIETY of topics...you should have seen the one(s) we had for the Yankees/Red Sox and World Series...1-3,000 per thread!!

And uhmmm...Artest displayed UN-acceptable behavior Friday night at a basketball game.

what about the fan that started the riot by throwing the cup of beer or soda, shouldn't he be fined/barred/arrested?

Forgive my ignorance - I only follow sports from a great distance. But it's been hard to miss this little episode.

So, if he's out for the season, does he still get paid? If so, where's the punishment?

I'm in a county that's probably as red or redder than yours.

>>Did you complain about the hundred's of Scott Peterson threads? This news is actually news.

I think Scott Peterson is the guy who killed his pregnant girlfried. I haven't followed this case.

OK, it's new, therefore it's news. But what's the news about? What did Arttest, basketball/rapper do to be on the news? That's what I'm asking about. He must have done something bad if he's in the news. But if he did something bad, shouldn't he be going to jail? Instead I read here that he's going to make some rappings/rapps which means he's not going to jail? So, I ask again, what's the new and amazing news about this Artest, basketball player/thug?

Looks like a great move by Artest. The fighting gives him the thuggish street cred he needs to sell his rap album, and the suspension gives him the time off. Problem solved.

Are you saying that NBA players aren't in need a little discipline? Give me a break.

I'm saying it's becoming tiresome seeing people who don't follow the NBA, proudly proclaim they don't follow the NBA, making proclamations about the sport without knowing it has very few brawls, hasn't had an incident prior to this one of a player going into the stands since 1995, and has had fewer incidents of players going into the stands than baseball. And MUCH fewer brawls and violence overall than baseball.

And really, people, stop using the "thug" codeword. Just come out and say it. It's clear what you mean, the same way it's clear what Pat Buchanan and his ilk actually mean by "Neocon." And why the NBA is getting bashed more than other sports.

I think that is probably up to the courts!!
I still think that a lot of this crap from the fans would stop if stadiums would stop selling beer and not allow anyone in to a game if they are drunk. You can't stop all the stupidity but maybe cut it down a lot.

Thanks. At long last I'm in the know too.

I guess I can move along now to some real news.

All the suspensions are unpaid, as they should be

I agree they should go after the riotous fans, but the local officials should also charged Artest for the assault against the fan. He was the wrong guy, and even if he was the correct person, he was not defending himself, he was enacting retribution.

Clearly this is just more fallout from the atmosphere created since Janet Jackson exposed her breast (someone let me know as soon as a talking head says that.)

Does the suspension for the reset of the season include the playoffs?
