New Video Game Recreates Kennedy Assassination

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A new video game to be released on Monday allows players to simulate the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy.

The release of "JFK Reloaded" is timed to coincide with the 41st anniversary of Kennedy's murder in Dallas and was designed to demonstrate a lone gunman was able to kill the president.

"It is despicable," said David Smith, a spokesman for Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy, the late president's brother. He was informed of the game on Friday but declined further comment.

Kirk Ewing, managing director of the Scottish firm Traffic Games, which developed the game, said he understood some people would be horrified at the concept, but he insisted he and his team had nothing but respect for Kennedy and for history.

"We believe that the only thing we're exploiting is new technology," said Ewing, a former documentary filmmaker and senior executive with Scottish developer VIS, responsible for games like "State of Emergency." He said he sent Edward Kennedy a letter before the game's release.

Ewing said the game was designed to undermine the theory there was some shadowy plot behind the assassination. "We believe passionately there was no conspiracy," he said.

Traffic Games said the objective was for a player to fire three shots at Kennedy's motorcade from assassin Lee Harvey Oswald's digitally recreated sixth-floor perch in the Texas School Book Depository.

Points are awarded or subtracted based on how accurately the shots match the official version of events as documented in by the Warren Commission, which investigated Kennedy's assassination.

Shooting the image of Kennedy in the right spots in the right sequence adds to the score, while "errors" like shooting first lady Jacqueline Kennedy lead to deductions.

Each shot can be replayed in slow motion, and the bullets can be tracked as they travel and pass through Kennedy's digitally recreated body. Players can choose to see blood by pressing a "blood effects" option.

Players can view the motorcade from a number of angles, including the perspective of filmmaker Abraham Zapruder and a view from the "grassy knoll" where some conspiracy theorists believe a second gunman was stationed.

The game will be available via download for $9.99.

LBJ was the one who got us into Vietnam War. JFK wanted little to no involvement. There is a book on that subject. LBJ may have been part of the military industrial complex.

John Hinckley was not insane. He should of been imprisoned for life.

Is there a version for Rabin? I might enjoy that one, given how that bastard's appeasement led to the deaths of 1500 Israelis.

The only "magic" is the creativity of the conspiracy theorist.

Check out this page, which was used by the program I saw last night.

I fully understand Sen. Kennedy's feelings on this...I don't like him but I'd be pissed as hell if someone made a game recreating the killing of my brother aswell.

The quote was from a spokesflack. Fat Teddy The Bimbodrowing Dissolute Lush is too drunk to know what's going on. Maybe the National Enquirer can get him all liquored-up and get a photo of him playing the game on its cover.

The game Lesiure Suit Larry tried to test people's ages by asking them what Ted Kennedy was best known for. The choices were:
A)His brothers
B)His driving skill
C)His underwater free-style swimming
D)Being a U.S. Senator

Is this show called "Investigating History" which will be replayed at 10pm tomorrow (Monday)? I really wanted to see it, but missed it.

Are you joking? Garrison was a nut who had no basis for that charge, and the jury took under an hour to vote not guilty.

Now those are impressive links..... I have read most books on the assassination, my information comes from those (pro/con conspiracy), not from an encyclopedia-type website.

The Zapruder film notwithstanding, why is it then that there had to be a magic bullet theory in the 1st place--unless there were more bullets? Or that the autopsy was mislaid, and the photos gone--unless there were more bullet holes than one? Or, that no fewer than 25 people died of a karate chop to the neck, and that these people were witnesses with information on the assassination--unless the picture they painted was not the official one? Or that the headline on the other side of the globe was released ahead of when this could have been done pre-Internet--unless it was already in the works?

While there may be plenty of reason to keep the myth of the lone gunman alive, there simplest explanation is the best. He moved his head backward in the film when his head was split open and the brains scattered backward on the trunk. The last shot came from his right front. He was triangulated, along with help from a slow moving driver, whose name I don't recall.

What's the surprise? That Johnson could pull it off with his friends and thereby avoid prison, or that the CIA was taking JFK out? Does it matter now which is correct? Whoever pulled this off was able to cover their tracks, and quickly--and that takes real power.

I think that's right. I tuned in a few minutes into the show, but I think that's what they called it at commercial break.

Garrison was a nut - He was a DA for New Orleans for 15 years and a Circut court Judge for about 12. Hardly what I would term a nut.

who had no basis for that charge, and the jury took under an hour to vote not guilty. - Your comment refers to the evidence presented in Court, on which the correct verdict was rendered. What I refer to is evidence that was excluded from presentation. I would argue the evidence should have been allowed. It was not and he lost the case. If you know of what evidence I refer, then I would be interested to hear if you agree as to its exclusion. If you do not know to what I refer, then you may want to educate yourself, if you do, then I think you would come to the same conclusion I have.

I don't post much so I hope I get this HTML right

It was called "The Kennedy Assassination: Beyond Conspiracy". It was not part of the Investigating History series as far as I can tell. The program you mention is a different one.

Here is a link to the pop window on History channel for the description of this program. I could not find another date for it to air.

Also check post 104 in this thread. The link lormand put there is from the site about the animation used in the program.

Link did not work. Anyway, go to History channel's website and check TV listings for November 21 12-2am. Or seach listing for "beyond conspiracy" and you will find it.

Off to HTML bootcamp for me.

Actually, I believe that part of the brilliance of the conspirators was that they made it look like the CIA was involved, when they probably were not directly involved. The CIA then realized that they possibly looked guilty and went into full blown cover up to protect themselves.

Craig Roberts, RifleWarrior.com, Kill Zone: A Sniper Looks at Dealey Plaza, Consolidated Press International, 1994, pages 89-90:

According to my friend, Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock, the former senior instructor for the U.S. Marine Corps Sniper Instructor School at Quantico, Virginia, it could not be done as described by the FBI investigators. Gunny Hathcock, now retired, is the most famous American military sniper in history. In Vietnam he was credited with 93 confirmed kills--and a total of over 300 actual kills counting those unconfirmed. He now conducts police SWAT team sniper schools across the country. When I called him to ask if he had seen the Zapruder film, he chuckled and cut me off. "Let me tell you what we did at Quantico," he began. "We reconstructed the whole thing: the angle, the range, the moving target, the time limit, the obstacles, everything. I don't know how many times we tried it, but we couldn't duplicate what the Warren Commission said Oswald did. Now if I cant' do it, how in the world could a guy who was a non-qual on the rifle range and later only qualified 'marksman' do it?"
