I just saw it on Fox, and it was great I have read many Posts on the incident. its amazing to me that some of these seem to say the President was wrong or that the secret service would be upset that he did this. IMHO he did the right thing. This is a man I am proud to have as president, not some phony Gigolo who wrote himself up for medals.

Edwards would be running for cover behind a curtain, while Kerry would've gone for the "sensitive" approach.

" I would strongly urge the President to wear body armor (as uncomfortable as it might be) for any public appearances. "

I would have to imagine that ANY time POTUS appears in public He is wearing a vest. That may have been the standard even before 9/11. That Rectangular thing every barking moonbat liberal said was a Body mike during the debates was probably the ceramic trauma insert on his vest. If I was head of W's detail, He would wear a vest anytime He is to be exposed to the general public, bottom line. there are too many nutbars running around out there

That was my first thought!

Never in all my life have I ever even heard of anyone trying to separate POTUS from his security.
That is an outrageous and unconscionable failure.

I hope that we get real answers, because even if this was not such an action, you can bet that idea is now planted in many other minds.

Perhaps we need to start thinking about even more security in such countries.

A couple of snip's from the Washington Times article about this incident:

The president's lead agent approached the line of men as quickly as it closed and demanded to be allowed through. Within a few seconds, the confrontation began to escalate with voices being raised and shoving in all directions.

"You're not stopping me! You're not stopping me!" yelled the agent, as captured by several television cameras. "I'm with the president."

Mr. Bush calmly turned right as the other three continued on and inserted himself into the fight. The president reached over two rows of Chilean security guards, grabbed his lead agent by the shoulder of his suit jacket and began to pull.

A few Chilean guards turned their heads and noticed that the arm draped over their shoulders was that of the president, and the line softened. Mr. Bush pulled his agent through, who was heard to say, "Get your hands off me" as he passed roughly through the doorway.

According to Secret Service sources, the man Mr. Bush pulled through is a high-level agent and one of the president's personal favorites. The president normally has two agents near him at all times, but the second agent on the detail was not immediately allowed through.

Source.

Dang, I left out the best part when a scuffle between photographers started after the SS incident:

A cameraman for CNN was knocked off his ladder but was not hurt, and a tall light stand was nearly knocked over toward the leaders as the shoving continued for about 10 seconds.

Thanks for putting it all together here.. went through the "food fight" thread.. with the pieces falling together along with opinion & heated tension (from FReepers)..

Hope they will get some clarity on what went wrong.

Appreciate you taking the time to put this all together

Didn't the clintons have the SS agents carry their luggage, too? ...or was that the Marines?

The SS agents carried the luggage. The Marines did the heavy lifting--Hillary's makeup kit and spatulas.

President Bush knows why the SS man "may" have been blocked. Less protection for him. See a problem, deal with it. President bush knows what side the SS guy is on but knows little about all the others.

Compare this to the open contempt in which the Clinton Family held the Secret Service. The contrast could not be more clear.
