With pundit vs. pundit, was it payback or pills? (Joe Scarborough lies about/disses Sean Hannity)
US News ^ | 11/29 issue | Washington Whispers

Posted on 11/20/2004 5:14:49 PM PST by Cableguy

It was deep in a Washington Post story about how conservative talk show hosts would be struggling over what to talk about during four more years of GOP control. But now, topic A in cable TV newsrooms is a wicked slam of Fox's top-rated Sean Hannity by MSNBC's low-rated Joe Scarborough . Last week Scarborough said that the new political landscape would prove especially tough for Hannity. "If you've been reading off the Republican National Committee's talking points like he has for the past four years, it's going to be hard to be critical of the status quo," said Scarborough. Too hot? Scarborough himself thought so, claiming he was misquoted. Well, Post writer Paul Farhi tells us the former congressman attacked Hannity not once but three times while an MSNBC PR aide listened in. The channel doesn't dispute the account. Scarborough said the painkillers he was taking for his bad back didn't loosen his lips. But a payback may have: TV sources say Fox has refused Scarborough's "repeated pleas" for a job, and Hannity has rebuffed his requests to flack Scarborough's book. MSNBC declined to comment.

I don't like Hannity too much. He is kind of a cheerleader type.

I won't argue with you there, as Hannity is a sanctimonious fuzz, but to be critiqued by a failed congressman/totally vacuous MSNBC squirrel? Come on... **S**

I liked the way Scar-boy gave it to Ron Reagan, the ballet dancer, a couple of times during the campaign though.

Much ado about nothing.

Who cares what Scarborough has to say.

"I don't like Hannity too much. He is kind of a cheerleader type."

I DO like Hannity. George Bush was a cheerleader.

What is wrong with cheerleaders? Is that your only consideration regarding Sean Hannity?

Joe is right.

I remember after the first debate and Sean was acting like Bush's performance was the second coming of Daniel Webster.

Sean Hannity worked hard for Bush's re-election. On his radio and tv show, he never let up on his criticism of Kerry. He also treated John O'Neill and the Swiftvets with a great deal of respect. Sean deserves our thanks, not our criticism.

Scarborough is most likely jealous of Sean's fame and ratings.

Here is what Joe said to TV Newser:

In an e-mail to TVNewser, Joe responds to this morning's Washington Post story: "While I have been on strong pain medication for the past few weeks, I would not tell a reporter that 'Sean Hannity has been reading off of RNC talking points for the past four years' even if I were on heroin."

Joe continues: "I did discuss the challenges conservative hosts face over the next four years, and said I had caught grief from some conservative talk show hosts for being critical of the President's first debate performance. But I did not attack Sean Hannity or anyone else."

He plans to write a letter to the editor of the Post specifying the inaccuracies...

I thought I read that earlier this Scarborough disavowed the quote attributed to him.

Sean has a lot of charisma, and little kids and young girls call into his show. He is reaching a lot of young people that grumpy old demagogues like Savage don't.

Sean is a true conservative and he does a lot for the fallen soldiers' kids.

He puts his money where his mouth is!!

He is not ashamed to be who he is and does not apologize for it.

Hannity is Limbaugh Lite. I don't mind him. He's not close to being as bright or analytical as Rush, but he appeals to people who don't like Rush's shtick. Hannity truly does come off as the guy next door. Who knows how long that will last, though.

I always liked Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. It was slow, relaxed, pleasant, and great for the kids. By contrast Sesame Street was bang, bang, bang, nothing lasting longer than 10 seconds. I don't see any harm in slowing down, relaxing, and being just plain nice.

I like Sean Hannity. He's nice, he's warm, and he's pretty smart, too, IMHO. As was Mr. Rogers. If you want to be cool, that sort of approach is easy to make fun of.

But personally I think that being cool is the root of a lot of our problems. Better to be kind and good than cool.
