President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.
Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.
Great Pics Dio.......
If you get bounced, I'll give you my DU troll identity. I've never used it.
I'm now getting really worried about W and Laura being in that country with just the SS guys to protect them. Maybe it's time to consider getting them out of there.
God bless our President, what a man.
Ain't that the truth! Say it loud, say it proud!
This incident looks pretty supicious to me.
The Chileans know better. And, the Secret Service
wasn't on there toes here. They should have been in
the room before the President arrived. All the security
people should have been aquainted with each other
before the event to prevent mix-ups like this.
(If it was a "mix-up".)
The DUers are tripping over themselves trying to discredit GWB for this. What they don't (and will never) realize, is that this is EXACTLY why he won re-election!
Time for the Can of Whoop Ass graphic...

Fox's shown it several times. Don't watch the others.
It was only this past July that my younger daughter married the young man from Israel. After hearing him talk of "normal" life in Israel I am more than ever thankful for our freedom and safety. The new son-in-law revels in just being able to go to restaurants without looking for terrorists. It amazes him to be able to sit openly in their yard and not have to have any security in their little house. Just watching him acclimate to the US has been a lesson in living a life in a nation plagued by terrorists!
I'm sure the SS's could have blown away the Chileans if they had wished, but to do that for a mere "shoving match" not involving the President himself was not in their walking orders.
Strange stuff. With the level of animosity the President and his detail need to be careful. Especially in an relatively unstable country like like Chile.
Chilean police getting between the President and his security. Crazy stuff.
When VP Nixon was in Caracas Venezuala in the late 1950's hostile communist crowds ambushed the Presidential convoy. They set up roadblocks and had their thugs waiting. VP Nixon's secret service where ready to fire on the crowd but Nixon stopped them because he thought shots would enrage the crowd. The convoy managed to cross the median and escape.
Eisenhower ordered available military to the area and was ready to respond against Chile.
A very interesting story detailed in Nixon's book Six Crises. In this case, the Venazualan police disappeared when the crowds started mobbing.
We can not trust S. American police to provide security for our President or dignataries I think.
=8-)
It's cliché, but "they just don't get it." This is, of course, a great thing because they will keep losing elections until they do "get it."

I agree with what many have posted here, I am soooo very happy that W is our President and so very proud of him (and don't think many others, such as sKerry and Klintoon would have done this). I want him and his family and team to be safe (and keep that in my prayers daily).
This appears to be a Big Time screw-up, the SS is always right next to the Pres (except during formal photos, speeches, dinners, where they're always very close by). I don't get this and, while I don't want to read too much into it, I sure hope it wasn't a 'trial run' as some have mentioned. I heard on the news he's going to Europe soon - -any issues and protocol need to get corrected NOW!
Ps 27:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell.
3 Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war should rise against me, In this I will be confident.
(NKJV)
GODSPEED GEORGE WALKER BUSH!
GODSPEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If that were the case, then I don't think that W would have rescued him. I think that the Chilean security forces ganged up on him and that is why W stepped in.
It says a lot when W notices that "One of his people" is getting harrassed and takes care of it. 95% of most Presidents wouldn't have intervened. They would have let the Chile security forces do what they may.
To me if says that Bush doesn't trust the Chilean government to protect him, and he is going to "protect his guys" so that they can protect him. I don't trust them either.
So, do you have family in Alabama to that you are visiting for Thanksgiving? This will be my first visit there. My son-in-law is now stationed in Huntsville and I am really looking forward to this visit. :-)
