Seriously, why are there are more brawls in sports? Sports is all about having fun. This is happening even at the Pee-Wee sports.

The culmulative effect of rap "music" combined with the glamorized thug culture.

There is enough background on this guy about how he skirted the acadamic qualifications for entrance to Notre Dame in his quest to win. He had endless battles with the administration over this and when he lost he still did what he wanted. The Notre Dame infatuated media kept a lid on this until he was gone. In fact one of the reasons that Notre Dame has for the most part struggled since he left was because the Administration there regained control over admission.
As far as being an Arkansas, he rose to fame as coach of Arkansas. I probably could have put Nolan Richardson on that list, he deserves it, but I believe he was a Texan. His fame came while at Arkansas as did Holtz.

Gangsta rap is vile. I read somewhere that it is a form of Black self-hatred. Lot of non-Blacks are into Gangsta rap and dress like them.

And no , I am in no way a Big 10 fan or Notre Dame fan. I just tired of the fawning over this guy who to me is the Football equivalent of Larry Brown.

I don't know about that. The early NBA of Sheboygan, Ft. Wayne , Rochester and Syracuse were littered with fights. The players were 90 per cent white then. We just did not have the hand-wringers around then to try to stir up a sense of outrage then.

My friend played (walked on) for Holtz at ND....he almost left the first year...but stayed with it. He seemed to indicate that Holtz was a racist SOB.

So who are they getting in down here in Columbia to replace Lou? The Ol' Ball Coach his-self, Steve Spurrier. Unnnnnngh.

First Spurrier ran my Redskins into the ground, and now he's coming *here*. I can't get away from this visor-wearing a-hole nightmare!

There are a lot of stories about Holtz that the media covered-up. You won't hear them now that he is an old man. To be fair about the racist stuff, there probably was a lot of Southern coaches that came of age during that era , were of the same cloth. That was the culture. How many stayed frozen in time and how many changed is the issue.

You will be OK with Spurrier. The most important job of a college coach is done on National Letter of Intent day. Spurrier will win those battles.

I think that spurrier and the USC athletic department have underestimated the depths of the hatred that cock fans harbor for the "ol' ball coach". there are some problems that a change of visor simply will not solve.

SO......
You condone violence on the field? And starting it? Well, more than just the normal violence of a college football game?

1st string Quarter back is down and your team stomps on the second string quarter back? Knowing your team is going to win by a landslide? That's so unsportsmen like. Beyond it, if you saw the play.

No wonder I switched from never being a Clemson fan to a USC fan 5 years ago.

Forfeit comes to mind.

Why bother with So Car. The ACC is big enough to keep Clemson busy for some time.

unlikely that the head coach of Notre Dame could be as you say, and no one in the media would expose him.

Seems to me it's common knowledge and generally believed in this part of the country.

Part of the story being he doesn't get run out of town, but leaves just before the feathers hit the fan.

Brawl brakes out at NCAA football game (Excerpt)

Emotions on both sides spun out of control late in the fourth quarter with a sidelines-clearing fight that saw Holtz diving into a pile of players as peacemaker.

``That's the first time that ever happened to me during a game,'' Holtz said.

Police, security and coaches tried to separate the teams, who scuffled before the game started and pushed and shoved each other throughout.

The fight appeared to start at the line of scrimmage when South Carolina failed on a fourth-and-11. South Carolina offensive lineman Chris White was fighting with Clemson players and the others rushed to the centre of the field to take part.

South Carolina receiver Matthew Thomas and Clemson cornerback Justin Miller also traded swings. The mass of players moved to the east end zone before security, state troopers and other law enforcement officers could break things up.

``There's no place in football for it,'' Holtz said.

The public address announcer asked all players to clear the field.

Both teams were assessed unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. After a break of about 10 minutes, play resumed with Clemson ahead 29-7.

With the victory, Clemson became bowl eligible.
