A ringing cell phone landed a 17-year-old Patchogue girl facing drug charges in a jail cell this week after an angry district court judge sentenced her to 21 days for contempt.

Mariela Acevedo of 21 Hammond St. incurred the wrath of District Court Judge Salvatore Alamia on Tuesday. As she awaited her hearing, an electronic device went off in Alamia's Central Islip courtroom and he warned everyone to shut off all cell phones and pagers or face contempt charges.

"If you don't know how to shut it off, go outside and introduce it to the heel of your shoe, he said according to a transcript.

When Acevedo's phone subsequently sounded, Alamia called the teenager forward and asked, "Did you think I was playing with you?"

for accidently forgetting to turn off a cellphone.

How do you know it was an accident?

What is next, death sentence for producing second hand smoke?

Dude, where have you been? Second-hand smoke has been a death sentence for years...

She clearly didn't refuse.

don't know how clear that was. I don't have teenagers, but, from what I hear, they aren't always sincere.

Teenagers not sincere? Beating them with a horsewhip, or maybe a couple weeks in Juvenile Hall, housed with some mindless homicidal gang bangers, seems to work every time. Show them the adults are in charge.

'Snide' doesn't disguise the fact that 'proof by vigorous assertion' on your part proves nothing.

OK, maybe the horsewhipping was a little extreme.

No, just completely irrelevant.

You want sugar coated niceties for a power drunk judge that gets tough with children? Find yourself tinkerbell. You wont get them from me.

Our government and their agents, ie: Judges, LEOs, the President, stand winking and nodding, and actually aiding and abetting the epic lawlessness of millions entering our country illegally, and then force all of us to pay for this titanic crime, by confiscating our incomes. I have much contempt for them and their *GLARING* hypocrisy and fraud. You want to kiss the a$$ of this kind of hyporcrisy? Be my guest, just don't expect me to fall in lock step cadence behind you.

dear captain mike:

I received your letter of 11/22 concerning my propensities. yes, you have found me out. I use my cellphone liberally and when someone phones me it rings. I also pass wind in a loud, liberal manner, oftentimes in a crowded elevator or train. Perhaps with the help of pioneering judges like judge almia I will mend my ways. Big and intrusive government convicting and imprisoning cellphone users is a first step in this direction.

If you actually go and specifically research THIS judge, you'll find that you can't back this assertion up. Of course, if you scratch no deeper than the headlines, you'll continue to believe this assertion, and probably the ones that also say we're cruel to deny services to illegal aliens (see, I can bring in irrelevant topics also).

Our government and their agents, ie: Judges, LEOs, the President, stand winking and nodding, and actually aiding and abetting the epic lawlessness of millions entering our country illegally, and then force all of us to pay for this titanic crime,

This has nothing to do with arguing whether or not a cell phone that rings deserves a "contempt of court" charge. I happen to think that a)judges shouldn't be soft on illegal immigration, and b)judges shouldn't be soft on 'contempt of court'. Even if the judges are inconsistent in their rulings on these matters, the positions aren't themselves inconsistent. Why can't you comprehend this?

If a murderer comes out and says that murder should stay illegal, are you going to call him a hypocrite and demand the murder be legalized because he is hypocritical? No, because being a hypocrite has nothing to do with the validity of the position.

Likewise, you would do well to argue against or for the merits of the "contempt of court" charge for the cellphone, rather than somehow try to steer things down the "two wrongs make a right" argument.

If you'd just lay off the drugs, you'd never have to appear before Judge Alamia. Just a suggestion.

LOL! You are kidding no one! This goes far beyond this power drunk judge and this cell phone.

It has *everything* to do with *every* law in this country.

Our government has decided to pick and choose which laws to enforce. Routinely, citizens are held to the letter of the law, yet illegal aliens, people that are in our country illegally get a pass, are pandered to, and we are made to support this titanic criminal invasion to the tune of BILLIONS of tax payer dollars. If we fail to pay our taxes, to support this massive government sponsored crime, if we fail to support this coast to coast lawlessness, we are threatened with jail and violence.

Even Stevie Wonder can see this epic, glaring government hypocrisy.

You think I am the only one that sees this brutal, in your face hypocrisy?

Oh, you mean those drugs coming across our southern border, by the TONS, routinely, as the judges, LEOs, and the President stand winking and nodding, known damn well what is happening! That's OK right? But damn it, no young girls better leave their cell phones on in this hypocrites court room. LOL!

The joke is on all of us. You are just to blind to see it.

Ah. So your answer is, stop holding citizens to the letter of the law, and that will fix everything. Brilliant. I'm surprised Clinton didn't appoint you to the Supreme Court.

Ah, so you have evidence that this judge is soft on illegals? Great! I'd like to see it.

Would it make you feel better if you found out this girl was an illegal immigrant?

By the way, stop for a moment and wipe the foam off your mouth, before somebody hauls you in for mandatory rabies shots.

Which laws are citizens able to ignore? And can we charge the government money when I commit these crimes like the government charges citizens?

You tell me. You clearly seem to think we should be able to ignore them, since you get upset when they're not ignored.

And can we charge the government money when I commit these crimes like the government charges citizens?

Gibberish.
