Fraud allegations focus of (Indiana) 9th recount
The Tribune (Seymour, Ind.) ^ | November 19, 2004 | staff and wire service reports

Allegations of voter fraud in Monroe County will be a key point in the recount of Republican Mike Sodrel’s apparent victory over Rep. Baron Hill of Seymour in the Ninth Congressional District.

Sodrel’s campaign responded to the request of Democrats for a recount in the district by claiming a “substantial number” of ineligible voters may have cast ballots in Monroe County, which Hill won by some 7,000 votes.

State officials were to begin a prerecount inspection of the impounded county election materials today in Bloomington.

It's the same old story, but this time in a white rural district. But the Pubbies were smart. They sent out confirming mail to several thousand newly registered voters and nearly 1,000 were returned with "no such address." They are also doing the grunt work to throw out ballots that may have been submitted fraudelently -- see the below text from the article:

" ... providing [the Republican candidate's] staff with photocopies of voter registration forms, absentee ballot applications, signed absentee ballot envelopes and polling place signatures of hundreds of voters ... "

Finally, the Republican party fights fire with fire.

Bloomington (Monroe Co.) Indiana, home of Indiana University, is the Berzerkeley of the midwest. I am not surprised that the rats have stuffed the ballots. I doubt the Bloomington Herald Times (Little Pravda) will say anything about this, but if they do, it will boil down to Bush's fault.

Don't loose sight of their political agenda....It should be stated "My God, only Ruth Bader Ginsberg can save us now".

When are they going to investigate voter fraud in Detroit, Chicago and especially Philadelphia proper which boasted 86% turn out of registered voters?

Couple that impossibly high turnout % with Kerry saying that his people didn't turn out ENOUGH of their vote..."the votes were there to be gotten, we just didn't get them out"...

Yep, they gotta do much better next time...

I guess the liberal campus crowd can't accept the fact that the rural conservatives out number them and went to the polls.

Sodrel wants to match those forms against a list Monroe County Republicans have of registered voters to whom they mailed letters this fall, only for them to be returned as undeliverable, to see if any of those people voted.

...“but not 100 or 200 percent more in some precincts. There are just some questions there.”

Passing the smell test ain't easy........

It has been a long-held practice by the Democrats to gin up controversy and force a recount in close elections, to garner an opportunity to "handle" the ballots. In many cases, handling the ballots results in enough Republican ballots being disqualified and "finding" enough Democrat ballots to give the win to the Democrat candidate. This practice has been substantiated by a Democrat agent who headed up a regional task force which engaged in these activities for years, even flipping a US senate race. But 9,000 votes seems to be a lot to overcome in one district.
