I believe the pressure was enough to crack Specter.

Here is a song title for you "Beautiful Dreamer"

They are known as activists. They bothered to do this. And they have done much, much more than this. Fortunately for the babies, they won't be dismayed by your telling them to "get over themselves."

>>>>Who appointed YOU and YOUR buddies the spokesman for all of those people?

You'd be better off saving such animus for the liberal establishment leadership and not for the pro-life movement leadership. They speak for the vast majority of Republicans who are pro-life. Liberal RINO Arlen Specter doesn't deserve to sit in a GOP leadership position. And Bill Frist has no right to ignore a major GOP constituency.

That's because most FReepers have been hysterical on Specter threads. The GOP Senators know that Specter is a RINO. They know, they've worked with him for years. And conservatives have let their voices be known and you can bet that Specter listened. But no.....GET SPECTER OFF THE CHAIRMANSHIP! OFF WITH HIS HEAD! type approach ain't gonna get conservatives nowhere.

Frist and the Senate Republicans to conservative voters: "Thanks for your support. See you in 2 years, suckers!"

I posted this on another thread but--when they had their press conference today, the Judiciary committee was standing behind Specter. The reporters kept asking Hatch and others questions and Specter didn't seem to want to give up the mic.

The only senator that I saw that came close to satisfying me was Lindsay Graham (who I usually think is squishy). He acknowledged all of the phone calls and e-mails he received and that he knows that he owes them. He said that in the 2 years he has been in judiciary, Specter hadn't done anything to go against Bushs nominees. But, he said, if in the future he (Specter) doesn't live up to his promises, then Graham said he (Graham) could be held responsible by the constituents.

"These senators haughtily thumbing their noses at their constituency tells us alot about the power of the people, doesn't it?

And the tragedy is that they'll be voted back in yet again, which tells us alot about their constituency."

The problem initially seems to be the "lesser of two evils" argument. As for me, I will henceforth vote Constitution Party where ever possible. I am no longer a "captive audience."

As or wasting my vote, I feel I aready have.

Amen...I do not know Patrick Mahoney that well, but I know that he has been fighting for the mothers and the unborn for decades! How many of us have sacrificed to that degree?

I haven't made an ultimatum about Spectre for the precise reason words should mean something.

The desire is that a litmus test not be used against our judges. This has been my sole area of interest, not whether Spectre is Chair.

The answer of whether a litmus test will be applied has still not been answered. It won't be answered until Spectre & Reps are strongly tested.

I have the impression some have come to believe Spectre is the real issue, he isn't. He is only a vessel. The issue is whether qualified justices will be advanced regardless of their personal beliefs. A number of people are placing their reputations on the line in the heat of the moment. It is folly, and it is childish.

No war has been won or lost today if what concerns you is the appointment of our nominated judges, yet some behave as though it is time to abandon the issue. It is time to function has a serious body and understand emotional pique earns you nothing.

Continue pressure on the Reps so they continue to understand the importance of this issue to the base. Closely observe the actions of Spectre and the Reps when the new session opens. If they allow continued filibusters, THEN the right has been earned to leap to arms.

So holding the GOP Senate leadership's feet to the fire is wrong? That's ridiculous. This is politics. Albeit party politics. The GOP has its special interests and the pro-life movement is one of the biggest and the most vocal of those special interests. Arlen Specter isn't qualified to be GOP chairman for any Senate committee. Let alone the chairman of the Judiciary Committee. Specter's public opposition to Robert Bork and his subsequent boldface rhetoric about stopping Bork's appointment goes to far.

Conservatives have made the GOP the majority party in America today. I see no reason to back down and allow some liberal RINO to sit in judgment of PresBush`s nominees.

After President Bush's comments at the Clinton Library today I wonder if they aren't going more than "moderate."

Poohbah, no matter who in the pro-life movement it was, they wouldn't have sat down to talk to them.

The Sentors received thousands upon thousands of calls and IGNORED each and everyone.

The unanimous vote today says it all.

You are so right. If Specter hadn't come out and made the statement he did right after the election some people might not like him in charge, but, none of the brouhaha that has happened would have happened. I think it is good because we know now to watch him carefully and the other senators KNOW that we are watching him and them.

I don't think any of them want to get daschled, therefore, I think they will let him know if/when he breaks his promises.

Personally, I plan on watching him on all votes. I also plan on being more attentive to all of the senators, congressmen and how they vote, so that in 2006, I will have reasons to come on here and give opinions.

While Spector is definately not my first choice I don't think we need to spend our political capital in a circular firing squad. Spector has had a near-death experience. He could prove to be a very reliable ally or we can remove him later if he makes good on his original comments.

"I think it is good because we know now to watch him carefully and the other senators KNOW that we are watching him and them."

To a man, (all of them) they don't care that we are watching. It is now clear they don't give a rat's ass that we are watching.

I really wish some of these folks would get over themselves.

Yes, how dare mere constituents and citizens think they're entitled to having their concerns heard by their elected representatives.
