I think Joe'd do OK at Ridge's old job.

A trial balloon, or a listening tour?

Hmmm. Joe's a decent guy, and might be a good choice for Homeland Security. At the very least, the lightning rod for criticism would be a Democrat.

Now what vacant Cabinet position is unimportant enough to risk putting in a Democrat?

We need democrat senators from red states with Pubbie governors to be drafted for cabinet positions.

Hmm. I still think Rudy or Bernard Kerik should be DHS, but I suppose Lieberman wouldn't be *that* bad a pick. He would disagree with the President on many things, but that's not all bad...different viewpoints can be healthy.
Joe falls into the "he could do worse" category, I guess...no ringing endorsement, that.

I'd love to see Joe in the Bush cabinet, he's by far the best the Dems have to offer! I don't think we should do it just to get another Senate seat though, and I think Joe wouldn't do it if that was the intent. I'd be happy with a conservative Dem (one that wouldn't filibuster) being tabbed to replace him.
All that said, I doubt it will happen, just because of all the spin that would come out targeting both the Bush team for trying to pick off a D seat and at Joe for becoming a "traitor" to his party.

Joe LIEberman continues to this day to insist that President Bush stole the election in 2000.
He was a willing participant in the effort to disenfranchise the military vote in Florida.
Joe LIEberman is also a religious hypocrite not fit to be in our President's cabinet.

He's a genuine human being, a rare and endangered species of Democrat. He continues to support the WoT. His own Democrat Party tossed him aside without any due consideration during their primary process. I'd welcome him into the Cabinet in a position suited to his abilities.
Homeland Security would be an interesting place for him but the critical thing for me would be how he is on immigration. If he supports Bush's backdoor amnesty, I'd have to object.

Any U.S. Senator who voted to acquit Bill Clinton at his impeachment "trial" in 1999 shouldn't receive any consideration for any kind of GOP post no matter how inconsequential.
This goes for Arlen Specter as well as Joe Lieberman.

Isn't Governor Rell a Republican? If she appoints a replacement that could widen our lead in the Senate.

Well considering that Joe is but one of only a handful of Democrats I like I hope there's a place for him in the cabinet.

I support his appointment to a cabinet position. It would add relevance to my decent nasally-voiced Lieberman impersonation.

Lieberman is a mensch. A good choice for any department that does not interface with Middle East affairs.
