This particular one was eagerly attacked because it was left open to the "we hate aristocracy" groups and the left wing.
I also don't see anything wrong with encouraging the kids to reach for the stars. The key word here is, however, encouraging. The British government encourages in rather a strange way: they set the targets for the Universities and schools, which, I think, is directly opposite to encouragement, it's more of enforcement - typical socialist approach, the USSR lives - if not in body, then in spirit.
"I completely felt that people could not rise above their station," Ms Day replied."
Apparently, she was prematurely raised above her station....she didn't understand the memo.
Exactly. I was wondering if I was the only one who got that. Thanks.
I am no fan of royalty and am convinced absolutely that monarchies will be a distant memory in the near future, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with this statement.
In fact, I agree with it totally, and support the observation without reservation!
This is the only substance to her complaint I can find in the entire article. Everything else is "I didn't like it there, and they didn't like me, either, so compensate me." She might get a nuisance judgment, but unless the laws of England are radically different in this area than here, she has a pretty weak case imho.
Unless, of course, you are a favor driven Politburo member, or a member of McGreely's staff.
By this statement alone you are more qualified than a lot of my former colleagues.
Strong resemblance to Steven Spielberg there.
"Well..he is training to be King of England..."
Prince Charles will NEVER be King of England! His mother will never allow it!
Best watch this person. He gives encouragement to anarchists.
Will she let him be QUEEN, then?
"he was born to his position"
Doesn't take away the truth of his words. We see it every day from Hollywood: movie stars who think they are world leaders. I see it all the time at the mall, on the news, at work: lazy, uneducated people who think the world owes them a living. Sure, the Prince might be born to a life of luxury, but if he's making sense you can't really take that away from him.
"Prince Charles will NEVER be King of England! His mother will never allow it!"
"Will she let him be QUEEN, then?"
You got me laughing! But, really, its not that I disagree with the Prince's observations. He's right about the point at issue. Its just that he's in a difficult position. His mother ascended to the throne at a young age. He's been waiting his entire adult life for his moment to arrive. But his mother has never trusted his judgment (after all, he married Diana)and has stymied his ascension ever since. Queen Elizabeth will probably live to practically 100 years old, like the Queen Mum. When she goes, the next King of England will likely be Prince Charles' oldest son.
Always a bridesmaid, never a bride...
This is what Europe is about. You have to stick to the social class you were born into.
I thought the Boy Who Would Be Queen couldn't ascend to the Throne due to the fact that he is a divorcee. And you are correct about William. He will be King. I'd rather be his brother, though. BIG PIMPIN'!
