Homeland badges chased down
"15 department IDs have been recovered; Wayne takes action to find missing five."
By Norman Sinclair / The Detroit News
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Wayne County officials have been forced to take legal action to retrieve at least five homeland security badges and identifications they admit are still in the hands of non-county employees who should not have such sensitive credentials.
Eric V. Smith, a top aide to County Executive Robert Ficano, said 15 badges have been recovered since The Detroit News published a story last month about abuses of those badges by civilians not connected to county government.
At least one civilian member of a homeland security advisory board flashed such a badge and showed off the official identification card to get out of a traffic ticket. The man also had shown the badge to Wayne County jailers in an attempt to arrange a private visit with a friend who was awaiting trial on federal drug conspiracy charges."
