The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Connect these dots, now
Full Story
"We should have secured the Mexican border."

That could be the pitiful lament we hear from negligent U.S. officials if Al Qaeda pulls off an attack on the United States using weapons of mass destruction smuggled across our southern frontier.

Were that horrendous event to happen, leaders in the administration and Congress would be justly hit with the same question that was perhaps unjustly cast at them and their predecessors after the unprecedented Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: Why didn't they connect the dots?

Unfortunately thats true. You know, a year ago i was on VERY high alert. Remember them saying around this time last year that a 'deathblow' was coming? My question is, IS anything going to happen or have they been dismantled to the point where all of their posts have become fodder? All that we've seen is Madrid, correct? It was also over a year ago when they told all of the muslims to get out of NY,DC and LA. Like i am running out of patience (NO, I do NOT want anything to happen) with them because i am sick of these threats coming out, then just anticipation of the worst.

was something thwarted this year that we dont know about? What about rumours of a nuke being found (excuse me guys, i am going on pure memory here) but wasnt there a subtle hint as to the feds finding something big? Have we deterred them to the point of unfunctionable? Or have they regrouped?

Really those questions bother me a lot to the point where i am such an addicted TM freeper, its the first thing i check in the morning when i wake up and am still reading any chance i have during the day, and at night.

Just my random thoughts.

skeggs.

I have not heard of any 'recoveries' however a recovery tends to be less newsworthy than the theft oftentimes.

Really isnt it a 60 day max time period from an Osama video and an attack? Topped with 2 from the 2nd in command, i am getting edgy.

The OBL 60 day period ends Dec 28. Al-Zawahri’s (AQ #2) recent video tape,11/28/04, is still a concern, however it appears that it has been answered in the attack in Saudi Arabia (Jeddah). We are in a window of significant potential for terror attacks. Even a small attack targeting a shopping mall could generate significant psychological fears and totally ruin Christmas. Keep alert and vigilent.

"Date For Al-Islah "Demonstrations" Confirmed"
Dec 07, 2004
By Bruce Kennedy, JUS

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Dr. Saad Al-Faqih, the head of Al-Islah movement issued a statement today confirming the date of the upcoming demonstrations for December 16th. The event is taking on serious tones with provisions for everything from banking to security being outlined in Dr. Al-Faqih’s statement yesterday, indicates an uprising is in the works.

Billed as demonstrations, the Al-Islah event is now taking on serious tones. Headed by Saad Al-Faqih, the leader of the movement who resides in England, many Al-Islah members requested Al-Faqih’s permission to carry arms during the demonstration for self defense, especially now that the Jordanian mercenaries hired by the Saudi government will out in full force. Dr. Al-Faqih has approved any means necessary for participants to defend themselves during the demonstrations. In a statement issued yesterday, Dr. Al-Faqih outlines provisions for everything from banking to security once the Saudi regime has been toppled, which indicates confrontations rather than demonstrations could occur."

Yep, need to run these to ground, otherwise we're still considering their potential for harm all the while they have been safely recovered. Glad they found the pesticide trucks.

skeggsdude,

I would like to give a considered response to your concerns:

1. You are not 'paranoid'. As confirmed by:
a. 9/11 and the attacks on the WTC
b. the prior attack on the WTC
c. the current, operative statements of US officials and
departments concerning the likelihood of further
imminent terrorist attacks

d. the statements of foreign officials concerning the
likelihood of further imminent terrorist attacks
e. the statements of recognized terrorist spokesmen(no
women allowed, by the way), sources and
instrumentalities
2. The 16th(today/tomorrow depending on where you are) has been mentioned as a date for demonstrations, and even if this date does not signify a specific point in time, go code for operations in the US, Iraq, Al Andulus, Italy, AU, wherever they think they can pull it off:
1. the time until the elections in Iraq is getting very close.
2. the unprecedented elections in Afghanistan took place.
3. the concept of democracy(as you or I would know
it) and free elections is anathema(joke catholic
derivation word)to the Koran, Hadith, and vision of
the Caliphate.
3. Therefor: You are correct. We, in the US, in the field and abroad, and our allies, can reasonably expect an attack(s)before the Iraqi elections.

"Islamist Extremism in Europe Greatest Danger"
The Daily Times [Lahore, Pakistan] ^ | December 16, 2004 | Khalid Hasan

Posted on 12/15/2004 6:28:31 PM PST by quidnunc

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The greatest danger to the West from Islamist extremists is now centred in Europe, not the Middle East, according to two experts.

A panel discussion held at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), which featured Martin Walker, chief editor of UPI, and Marc Ginsberg, a former US ambassador, was moderated by Arnaud de Borchgrave, who frequently writes on the subject of Islamist extremism."

Interesting connection lc, thanks for the ping. SEA is the airport code for Sea-Tac (the Seattle airport). I didn't know the USPS used the same designation code. Drive time from Sea-Tac to the Canadian border is about 3 hours. Flight time, according to Alaska Air, from Sea-Tac to the Vancouver, B.C. airport is 50 minutes. But, I think actual time in the air is much shorter, probably 20-25 minutes.

Your hypothesis makes more sense than a nuke reactor. As others have pointed out, it would be pretty difficult to do major damage to a reactor from a structural standpoint. A major airport would be easier, I would think.

Here is another one (from June) to add to your list Cindy. The propane trucks were recovered but, according to this article, they don't know about the propane.

SNIP: LAREDO, Texas (AP) - Two propane-delivery trucks were found Wednesday after being stolen from a gas company over the weekend, a theft that raised fears of what could happen if terrorists got hold of the explosive fuel. The trucks were found on a highway just outside of Laredo, San Antonio police spokeswoman Sandy Gutierrez said. She did not know whether the trucks were still carrying the fuel.

Also, at the end of the article:
SNIP: Also under investigation is the weekend theft of 15 gas canisters from an ambulance supply company. Authorities do not believe the thefts are related.

Yeah, the USPS uses that same type 3-letter designation for all US airports; I assume it is a "universal" (i.e. nationwide) system. All of our larger parcels, sacks, letter trays, etc. that are transported via air have a barcoded tag with the 3-letter airport code attached to them. It is the same type sticker that luggage is tagged with. Most are easy to figure out; some are a little more obscure.

I saw SEA and that was my immediate thought: Seattle-Tacoma Airport.
