The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Connect these dots, now

"We should have secured the Mexican border."

That could be the pitiful lament we hear from negligent U.S. officials if Al Qaeda pulls off an attack on the United States using weapons of mass destruction smuggled across our southern frontier.

Were that horrendous event to happen, leaders in the administration and Congress would be justly hit with the same question that was perhaps unjustly cast at them and their predecessors after the unprecedented Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: Why didn't they connect the dots?

the warnings sure are being stepped up lately ...

U.S. Embassy warns Americans of possible terrorist attacks in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY (AP) — The U.S. Embassy on Wednesday warned Americans in Kuwait of possible terror attacks and urged them to exercise caution.

In a message e-mailed to American citizens, the embassy said “it has credible information that terrorist groups are developing near-term plans for attacks against unspecified targets in Kuwait.”

The embassy asked the 13,000 Americans registered with it to “exercise caution, maintain a low profile and avoid areas where Westerners are known to congregate.”

It also told them to immediately report any suspicious activity to the Kuwaiti police or the embassy.

Kuwait has been a major ally of Washington since a U.S.-led coalition fought the 1991 Gulf War, which liberated the Gulf emirate from a seven-month Iraqi occupation. The small oil-rich state, which depends on the United States for protection, was the launch pad for the war that toppled Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein about two years ago.

However, some fundamentalist militants have attacked American military personnel in recent years, killing one Marine and an American civilian contracted to the military.

I'm almost 24 hours behind, so I apologize in advance if someone has already come up with this hypothesis.

In regards to the Weldon report and the "SEA" mention, I'm throwing out another possibility: SEA is the USPS code for the Seattle airport. I haven't looked at a map yet, but I would hazard a guess that it is slightly closer to the Canadian border, and could be considered a viable target possibility. A Canadian plane veering off-course towards a nuclear reactor would raise alarms. A Canadian jet coming into an airport would be less likely to, until it was too late. Although the damage inflicted would be less devestating than if a nuclear reactor were hit, consider the immediate impact on the airline industry if a hijacked airliner were able to take out an international terminal.

Just a scary thought...

See my post at #3103.

And lo and behold, Seattle is mentioned right after the Weldon article re: SEA.

hey all, its been a while unfortunately. I've been keeping up with you all, I just hadnt had my password to reply until scouring about 20 mail accounts and finding it.

my question is small, what exactly is up with tomorrow? the chatter was pointing slightly to people demonstrating in Saudi Arabia correct? should we be expecting something more? call me paranoid but i dont like when the chatter mentions any date (the 16th) .

stay safe all,

skeggs.

More from our wonderful neighbors to the north...

Martin Won't Fund Shield: Prime Minister Rules Out Missiles on Canadian Soil

OTTAWA -- Prime Minister Paul Martin said Tuesday he does not believe the U.S. ballistic missile shield will succeed in shooting down incoming rockets, as he threw up new roadblocks to counter President George W. Bush's strong appeal for Canada to join his continental defence plan.

Canada will not put any money into building the missile shield and it will not allow Washington to station rockets on Canadian soil as the price of participation in the multibillion-dollar program, Martin told Global National in a year-end interview. (excerpted)

Note: If anyone has an update with a url on this crop duster (I could have missed it.); I would appreciate you posting it. Thank you.

WSDOT.wa.gov - WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION - Advisory - Security Information for Aerial Application Operators/Airports: "On November 1, 2004, a crop dusting aircraft was stolen from Ejido Queretaro, near Mexicali, Mexico. Although there is currently no indication that this has any connection to terrorist activity, the theft is cause for concern. Past information indicates that members of al-Qa'ida may have planned -- or may still be planning -- to disperse biological or chemical agents from crop dusting aircraft. The stolen aircraft has been identified as a Piper PA 25, Pawnee, and is similar to one depicted below. It is registered in Mexico and bears the tail number XBCYP. If you see the aircraft described above, you should immediately contact the TSA General Aviation Hotline at (866) 427-3287." (November 5, 2004) (VIEW PHOTO. Read More...)
NEWS.com.au: "AIR AMBULANCES HIT BY SABOTAGE" (ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The Metropolitan Ambulance Service said the planes were the target of a deliberate attack at Essendon Airport. Vandals tampered with the landing gear on two planes. A plug that operates the aircraft undercarriage was disconnected in one plane and undone, but not disconnected, in the other. The sabotage was concealed within wheel wells.") (December 3, 2004) (Read More...)
