I believe it.

I feel great the next morning in the office after I have a drink or two the night before. I feel very sharp and very attentitive to what I am doing.

Oh really? I watched the Geat Race last night. Their first stop was in Iceland. I assume it was the middle of the day. One couple stopped to ask directions to a Waterfall(apparently a tourist spot) and everyone was drunk. couldn't even tell them where it was. yeah booze is good for the brain......NOT

I'm allergic to alcohol. If I drink it I break out in drunkeness and stupidity.

" although drunkenness probably negates any positive effects on the brain."

I have to take any study with a grain of salt if they can only say "probably"!

It is news guaranteed to raise a cheer among those who enjoy a glass or two: drinking half a bottle of wine a day can make your brain work better, especially if you are a woman.

I have found from past experience that two bottles of wine makes women's brains work even better than that - at that point, they would finally start to consider giving me their phone number instead of turning away and retching.

I've noticed that after a few drinks women seem to see the wisdom of my suggestions.

This study is crap! Cliff claven knew about this long ago!

"The human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers." -Cliff Claven

Makes sense to me! The more beer I drink, the smarter I think I am, until I reach a point where I'm yelling at the whole bar, expounding on my ideas about the theory of relativity, nuclear physics, and why the Chiefs really suck this year.

Seriously, I'm not surprised they're finding more and more "good" effects of alcohol. Moderation is the key.

I always have a few gulps of wine before studying for a test. It helps me to focus on the material if i am nervous/energetic/distracted

Well ya see, Norm, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first.

In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

*ROTFLMAO* Where to begin with this...

Half a bottle of wine has a most pleasant effect on my wife's brain... yeah, I guess I'd consider that "working better"! *lol*

Research to be published tomorrow by academics at University College London has found that those who even drink only one glass of wine a week have significantly sharper thought processes than teetotallers.

Does it follow then if you are a wino then you can expect to be another Einstein.

This is utter silliness from its inception!

the findings should not be used as an excuse for heavier drinking.

Dang...they just **had** to ruin the good news. Oh well, I don't have to worry...I am not a heavy drinker, I only drink Light beer : )

Time to restock the wine cellar!
I always knew that stuff was making me smarter.
I can keep other alcohol for months and not touch it.
But once I open a bottle of wine, I won't stop til it's empty.
