Testy Kerry dashes from reporters, hides in private digs

WASHINGTON - On his first day back in the Senate since losing the presidential election, Sen. John F. Kerry [related, bio] hunkered down for hours in his aptly labeled hideaway office in the U.S. Capitol and spurned questions about how he was adjusting.
Heading for his office, the Bay State senator told reporters he could not answer how it felt to be back because he was busy with ``stuff,'' then darted up a stairway.
Kerry attended a morning meeting at which Senate Democrats chose their leaders for next year, but did not address his colleagues.
He skipped the weekly Democratic caucus luncheon, instead dispatching one of his aides for Chinese take-out to eat in his private office.
Former Kerry running mate Sen. John Edwards [related, bio]

did speak at the luncheon, encouraging his colleagues to find a way to let voters in ``red'' states know that Democrats are on their side.

Sen. Harry Reid, who won election as Senate Democratic leader, said his colleagues are letting Kerry decide what he wants to do next.
``Sen. Kerry's going to find his own role,'' Reid (D-Nev.) said at a press conference. ``Sen. Kerry is not a shrinking violet.''
Kerry thanked some senators individually and granted interviews to Massachusetts television stations, remaining vague about possibly running again in 2008 by saying he's ``not shutting any doors.''
But he brushed off reporters who waited hours outside his office. Asked by one what the senator missed most or least about the campaign trail, Kerry replied, ``I'm not going to do an interview right now.''
After snapping ``What?'' at another journalist, who again inquired what Kerry was up to, he replied, ``Work.''
Waiting for an elevator, Kerry elaborated, ``I'm always happy to be back here. It's a privilege to represent Massachusetts.''
Kerry held a meeting to thank his staff, and aides said he spent the day making phone calls and working with staffers to prepare legislation for the next Congress. Although aides had touted a speech Kerry planned to make from the Senate floor about the national debt, it looked likely yesterday to be put off.

"Sen. Kerry's going to find his own role,'' Reid (D-Nev.) said at a press conference. ``Sen. Kerry is not a shrinking violet.''

No, he's a shrinking pink, judging by his favored shade of lipstick.

Note the verbs -- Kerry:

darted
brushed off
snapped
did not address
dispatching [an aide]
remaining vague

"He's crying because due to all the campaign publicity he had to show up for work after 20 years."

Yeppers. He's a lazy one that John Effin Loser. How many years does he have until re-election? Maybe Bush should just make him Ambassador to some French Speaking Island Nation, he can loll about all day. Maybe Haiti?

I'm still wondering why he had to take out a mortgage on that Boston place to support his campaign when his wife is worth a gazillion dollars. Not that it matters now, thank goodness!

I'll just bet he spent the day working on legislation for the next congress.

If he really was, which I doubt, we should all duck for cover next year.

He will need to see whose 'left' at the CIA, and now the State Department... and offer jobs to the leakers and book writers leaving.

Massachusetts bump.

So glad to have our lazy arrogant liberal jr. Senator back on the job. What did he say the other day...he was going to bring all his "passion and emotion" to being a player in the Senate. At least he won't have a Secret Service guy to bump into next week while he's boarding in Sun Valley.

(Sniffle), Gosh, Kerry is so "tolerant and compassionate" (sob).

He's got a lot of stuff to do; he's missed work for almost a year and has to make up for the paychecks he cashed.

LOL. Make up work. I needed a laugh. (You were being facetious, right?) He is all about entitlement. Not only has he missed nearly a year of work, but his record prior to this was 76% absentee. And then mostly to vote for tax increases, vote against defense spending and vote for abortion. That being said, he'd better rest up because Pres Bush wants to tackle those very issues - taxes, defense and abortion. Kerry may have to show up more frequently than 24% of the time.

He's going to make TV ads on gun safety.

Hmmm, how about proving yourself through such silly actions like tax cuts, fiscal responsibility and just saying "No Mo'" to homos for starters?
