Please help me on this fundraiser

I have been accused of something that I didn't do And I am being sued for it! On December 2, 2000, I held a rally in New Haven in front of then Vice Presidential candidate Joe Lieberman's house, doing what little I could to show support for the newly elected President Bush, and to show my frustration at the Democrats in their attempts to overturn the genuinely won election by George W. Bush. At the end of the rally, Former Ct State Senator Tom Scott was speaking on the back of my truck, when all of a sudden the lead Democrat supporter of the counter rally held at the same location, started to approach my truck, then turned and took 3 or 4 running steps and jumped on the bed of my truck in a manner that I thought he was going to attack someone on the truck: either me or Tom. I stepped to his side and held out my arm to stop him as he ran into my arm and immediately stopped his forward motion. I kept my hand held out in front of him to prevent him from going forward on the truck bed and get closer to Tom who was speaking at the time. After 3 seconds or so, the man who jumped on my truck immediately turned and jumped down off the truck into the arms of the Police who quickly escorted him away from my truck. The whole incident lasted no more than 5 seconds it seems. Tom and I decided to not press charges for assault or trespass on my truck, and let him go. 9 months later, the man filed suit against me for assault. I am not joking. 9 months later. He claims I grabbed his throat. Look at the picture. This picture was taken December 2, 2000. That is the man who claims I was grabbing his throat. My hand is on his chest, not his throat. My hand was NEVER on his throat, nor was it ever near his throat!

Why I made this website Because of the lawsuit, I am forced to endure thousands of dollars of debt that I cannot afford. I have been employed only in temporary positions since 2001 when telecom collapsed, and am deep in debt. This man is trying to use the legal system to get tens of thousands of dollars from me that does not belong to him, and he is doing it by claiming I assaulted him, which I did not do at all.

CAN YOU PLEASE HELP?? I am forced to ask, but can you consider donating to help me pay my legal fees? Because of this false charge against me, I am now over $8000 in debt to my lawyer, and we cannot continue until I can pay my bill! Could you please send me $5 or $10 or $20 to help my legal fees? Before you accept any checks, see if you're entitled to Legal Aid representation. Your city should have a Legal Aid office; their mission is to help broke people get legal representation.

Accepting FR donations might preclude your eligibility for Legal Aid, especially if FR donations are legally considered income.

Was the suit filed in federal or Connecticuit court? If it was in federal court, you could file a motion for summary judgment.

I might be slow, but I just don't get it. How in the world do you owe your atty 8000 dollars already? And what is he suing you for? Is it a civil or criminal case? If it's a criminal case, can you use a court appointed atty for that part? Are you counter-suing at this point? And if you don't have the $, why keep fighting it-- declare bankruptcy, and say to he-- with you all and move on with your life.

Please don't take anything I'm saying as criticism, I just don't think I have enough information. It seems like you could probably build yourself a much better argument in defense of yourself and justifying your request for money.

And thank you for your conservative political activism, I'm sorry it seems to have gotten you into trouble.

What kind of damages is this guy claiming? That you physically injured him? Emotional duress?

I've had to cut my FR donations to $5.00 a month (and even then the card is sometimes maxed out and the charge is declined!), but I will do my best to shake something loose for you, friend. This is a terrible injustice, and he deserves to be counter-sued.

Race ~~~ are you sure that you would have to pay taxes on any contributions you receive? Or could they be counted as "gifts"?

Since this whole procedure will probably be examined with a microscope, you certainly want to do everything by the book; but I would check that out carefully before claiming it as income.

Maybe someone with an accounting background can advise you on that.
