Way too much defense of this Marine for my liking here. No one will ever accuse me of being anti-Marine. My father was a World War II Marine, and two of my brothers proudly served.

I don't want to either prejudge, or pre-excuse this guy. I hate the scum he shot -- but on the facts described here -- his act unbecoming. Perhaps we will hear or see some new facts -- but on these -- he sets back the cause of our mission, and hurts those who wear the uniform. In addition, he may cost the lives of future soldiers and citizens captured by these animals.

I'd be a bit more encouraged if this thread considered all of the facts. I don't mourn the amoral scum he shot -- but I sure to revel in our soldiers shooting wounded, unarmed people.

Hopefully, there are more facts to justify this action.

If the enemy was the least bit civilized I would agree with you but ...

How so? Any future soldier or citizen captured by these people will be beheaded. How could it be any worse?

the Marine in question has been removed, hopefully after an investigation he will be returned to his unit. War sucks and questionable actions are to be expected but given what is known tactics of the terrorist I cannot place any blame on this Marine.

Gimmie a break, would you have preferred this marine took the humanitarian route, gave the terrorist a nice hug, maybe attempted CPR, only to be killed by a grenade? What would you say then? What would you tell his family? I am offended that would be so bold as to second guess this hero in harm's way. War is hell, period! I say good riddance to this less than human s**thead. Do you not grasp the concept that they want to kill all of us, no matter what? When do we got to say, enough is enough. Off comes the gloves you a**holes...look out, you pi$$ed off the US military.

"his act unbecoming"

This Marine had just been shot in the face the day before. According to reports, just down the road from this mosque four of his Marine buddies were killed by an explosive devise set off by a terrorist FAKING he was dead.

Some of these Marines and soldiers are seeing things every day that many people can't even bear to watch on televison, including their own guys being hurt and killed by these terrorists, the decapitated bodies of American civilians, and the disembowled, dismembered body of a Western woman; (not to mention the dogs and cats eating the bodies of the dead terrorists in the streets). As a Vietnam veteran with the 1st Cav I will say outright that what some of these guys are dealing with is just as hellacious and intense as any other war we've ever been in.

I for one have absolutely no problem whatsoever with this Marine doing his job and killing a terrorist who would cut his throat or blow him to bits given the chance. Faking dead to do just that is a terrorist tactic. Give this kid a medal and let's stop all the whining over a dead terrorist.

Check out post # 153 and tell me what frame of mind this guy

was in after hearing about his buddies being shot only

minutes before and being shot himself the day before. I for

one will be siding with this "our" soldier.

Along with my thanks to your Father and two brothers for their service, I would concur that the reporter is the one who sets back any cause and as you say "(the Marine)may cost the lives of future soldiers and citizens captured by these animals". I haven't seen the animals show any mercy yet to those captured, have you? Do you believe they would in the future if this had not happened? I am in no position to say whether the Marine made a mistake or not, but the reporter could have remembered "Loose lips sink ships" kinda thing and waited it out to see how the military would handle it.

I agree. Let me also say that IMHO embedded reporters should not be on the front line. But they are and this soldier knew this. Although I never served in the military & been in a war zone, neither have 99% of the people who will see this video. Its a "perception" thing. The investigation will deal with only the facts and not "what ifs"...what if he was playing dead...what if he was booby trapped. I, like most Americans, can not begin to imagine what our soldiers are going thru...while we live our "cushy" life styles. I think our troops are doing a fantastic job, and may God continue to be with them & especially with this particular Marine.

The WW II Marines stopped taking prisoners in the Pacific Islands --- because the wounded Japs wound use grenades to blow up Medics trying to help them. The Japanese were taught that surrender was dishonorable, and dying for the Emperor was honorable.

I have read this and was told this by a combat veteran who was there.
