NBC Says Marine Shot Dead Wounded Iraqi Prisoner
Rooters via Yahho!News ^ | November 15, 2004

LONDON (Reuters) - A television pool report by U.S. network NBC said on Monday that a U.S. Marine had shot dead an unarmed and wounded Iraqi prisoner in a mosque in Falluja.

The Iraqi was one of five wounded prisoners left in the mosque after Marines had fought their way in on Friday and Saturday. There was no immediate comment from the Pentagon (news - web sites) on the report.

U.S. forces launched an offensive one week ago on Falluja, and have gained overall control of the formerly rebel-held city, although scattered resistance remains.

The pool report by NBC correspondent Kevin Sites said the mosque had been used by insurgents to attack U.S. forces, who stormed it and an adjacent building, killing 10 militants and wounding the five.

Sites said the wounded had been left in the mosque for others to pick up and move to the rear for treatment. No reason was given why that had not happened.

A second group of Marines entered the mosque on Saturday after reports it had been reoccupied. Footage from the embedded television crew showed the five still in the mosque, although several appeared to be already close to death, Sites said.

He said one Marine noticed one of the prisoners was still breathing.

A Marine can be heard saying on the pool footage provided to Reuters Television: "He's fucking faking he's dead. He faking he's fucking dead."

"The Marine then raises his rifle and fires into the man's head. The pictures are too graphic for us to broadcast," Sites said. No images of the shooting were shown in the footage provided to Reuters.

The report said the Marine, who had returned to duty after being shot in the face a day earlier, had been removed from the field and was being questioned by the U.S. military.

Sites said the shot prisoner "did not appear to be armed or threatening in any way."

Probably during a similar situation.

It was a judgment call. I'll take the word of the Marine over the crybaby liberal eurodhimmi media.

I'll say it is another Abu Ghraib. It is an excuse for the media to exaggerate and outright lie.

Last time (AG) they published hoaxed photos of British soldiers urinating on "Iraqi""prisoners" and porn site photos of "American soldiers" "raping" "Iraqis". Such exagerations led to Nick Berg being murdered.

Things like this happen in every war. The kid did what he thought was right to protect his buddies. Leave him alone.

I agree with you - screw the media. The Marine is putting his life at risk every second fighting the terrorist scum. It insults me to know end how media has it in for our troops. Our troops should drop this media scum in the next terrorist den and let that POS get his reward.

Could private advertisements have any place here. If the report of what soldiers and fighters are doing is unfair, don't just moan in a blog room, get your message out to the public.

"If true, that was a spectacularly foolish move on the part of the marine that will no doubt end up in a court martial. What could he have been thinking?"

He was probably scared sh*tless by the firefight he'd just been through. I've never been in the military, but I'd bet that more than a few POW's have been shot in the immediate aftermath of a battle when the adrenalin is racing and you are filled with rage at what you've just seen done to your comrades. I think "Saving Private Ryan" showed some instances of that - right after the Americans secured Omaha Beach, they shot a few (not all) of the Germans who were trying to surrender. I bet that was common. True adherence to rules governing POW's probably doesn't always "kick in" right when a battle ends.

Hardball Outrage: Chris Mathews just said the insurgents weren't the "Bad Guys", they were just "defending their country."

If the Marine thought the "dead" terrorist was booby-trapped or was going to try to kill him, the other marines and the journalist, then he did the right thing by killing him.

He could have saved their lives.

col. ken allard who said "I hope this guy has the best of

lawyers" or something like that, he definitely has something

he will run with, at the end of the segment fat chris says,

" are we winning this war", what a dirtbag.

Well... our Marines aren't trained as policemen. If the terrorists wanted policemen instead of Marines, they wouldn't murder Iraqi security force recruits. It's their choice.

Also, the FOX News Channel report included the fact that insurgents have been known to fake being injured, and then attack U.S. troops as they moved in closer to assist.

That's no doubt true. I don't envy our soldiers who have to cart reporters around with them, only to have their actions captured on tape for the world to see and second-guess.

It seems like an impossible line to walk in instances such as this one.

Yeah he did and I'm sure any minute now he will come on TV and tell the world that this Marine deserves a Silver Star instead of a court-martial, Right? When Hell freezes over.

He will probably be the one leading the charge for a congressional investigation like they had for Abu-Ghraib.
,
BTW Chrissy Mathews just asked one of their "Monday morning quarterback, colonels" why we don't just take them prisoner. He said "when our guys get hurt, they get taken to Germany and get the best care money can buy, but these insurgents don't have anyone to take them". then he went on to ask if "our guys" just don't want to take prisoners.

I guess implying that they would rather be murderers, than babysitters for POWS. I wish the "colonel" would have told him that these aren't an army enemy, these are terrorists that would just as soon blow themselves up as to look at you.

you should be. NONE of this was necessary. Had we fire bombed the place in April, Iraq would be free and we would only have around 950 or so dead americans.

THE liberal media is literally killing marines by the hundreds by our passiveness and we even have freepers getting squishy about WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER.

If entering a situation where an enemy man would be likely to arise and attack, then no civilians should be allowed to follow. Seems to me.
