"Free Republic Opinion Poll:"

Only 1643 out of several hundred thousand freepers participated. That's probably close to the total number of racists, third-party wackos, xenophobes, Bush-haters and DU trolls who are registered on FR. And they probably voted dozens of times each.

The real test was the election of 2000 when Buchanan ran an anti-immigrant campaign (remember the meatball?) and got less than 1/4th of one percent of the vote.

Bush won. Get over it.

Math wasn't the instant problem, history was. Thanks for the correction.

>Here is a good idea<

Not just a good, but a GREAT idea, S. S.!

FAX it to the W.H. 202-456-2461

Is the President a champion of The Rule of Law, or just the rule of SOME laws?

I detest Pat Buchanan. I have my reasons. I voted for Bush. Illegal migration was not the reason.

Better be careful who you insult, Bay.

New FR Poll: Conservative Mandate Means We Hold Their Feet to the Fire!
November 3, 2004 | Jim Robinson

Does the Bush victory and the Republican gains in the House, Senate, and State Houses signal a clear mandate for a more conservative governance? In other words, should we hold their feet to the fire for strong national defense, smaller government, reduced taxes, conservative judges and defense of traditional American values?

http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/poll?poll=70

If you feel as strongly about this as I do, then you will agree that there's no time like the present to get started. I believe that GWB will continue doing a great job on national defense and the war, but, as we all know, we also need to start shifting some resources to beefing up our border security. How do we do this?

You're joking, right...??? Most do NOT get caught. The border patrol openly admits that for everyone they catch about three or four make it across. Hell, the mafia/drug cartels from Mexico and other parts of Latin America are able to smuggle tons of illegal substances (not to mention tons of other black market items) across our border every year.

You must work for Vicente.

"The border patrol openly admits that for everyone they catch about three or four make it across."

I haven't seen any estimates that high, and I have been paying close attention. (However I don't frequent White Supremacists websites)

What is the source of your figures? The highest I have seen come from mere guesses by individual labor union leaders trying to increase their budgets.

Even a 25% risk of being caught would be too risky for terrorists compared to the risks of entering legally with official visas issued on the basis of documents from foreign nations friendly to terrorists or documents acquired by use of other professionally forged documents, or false documents obtained by bribing foreign officials.

Homeland security isn't trying to stop terrorists simply by patrolling the Mexican borders. They are working closely with the Mexican government to keep terrorists from entering Mexico at ports, border crossing stations and airports.

We are working to prevent Mexican officials from being bribed to issue false passports and other documents that terrorists could use to gain legal entry into the U.S.

We are working with Mexican intelligence services to prevent coyotes and Mexican nationals from assisting terrorists.

We are working with Mexico to uncover terrorists cells in Mexico and expose Muslim organization with terrorist ties.

It's no accident that no terrorists have been caught trying to jump the Southern border. Even if only one out of ten border jumpers were caught don't you think we would have caught a few terrorists if they were trying to enter the U.S. by that method?

Exactly. I am getting concerned that some Freepers are sounding like Pat Buchanan.

Again.

"should we hold their feet to the fire "

Hold whose feet to the fire on what? President Bush has not wavered on his position on immigration. He has always maintained the need for reform that allows undocumented laborers to become legal guest workers.

He made this quite clear when he proposed such legislation last January and also in the third debate and in statements since the election.

But if you don't believe him and still feel a need to "hold his feet to the fire" on enacting a guest worker program go right ahead.

"Once we have some trust in the hispanic community we can start enforcing these laws."

"Whatever does that mean?"

Yeah. I saw that one too and would like that clarified as well. Why do WE need to build trust with lawbreakers? Also... isn't the GOP supposed to be the "law and order" party, where everyone is accountable for their own actions? When did this selective law enforcement idea worm its way into the party platform?

I understand your position but must disagree with you. Even without the terrorist threat, this immigration situation is a problem. Did you know that not one minority group voted for the GOP candidate in any of the last three elections? Those are the facts.

In time we will become a socialist state by virtue of the ballot box if the demographic shift is not halted - at least temporarily so that the new immigrants can find out the real reasons America is great - and it isn't because of big government.

Prof, this isn't the wind. We have the ability to control immigration if we put our minds to it. We could all but shut it off if we wanted by:

1. No handouts to illegals.
2. Bar illegals from our schools.
3. Prosecute employers that hire illegals.
4. Withhold fed funds from districts that do not cooperate with immigrations enforcement.

If we don't close the borders then the same thing that is happening in the Netherlands will happen here.

You really do work for Vicente.

Where do you actually get your figures for the 75% claim? We do not apprehend 3/4 of the illegals coming across our border. My figures are far closer to the actual truth than yours is.

Actually, would-be terrorists stand a greater chance of not getting caught nowadays (going across the border illegally) than going through all of the proper legal channels.

We have been working with Mexican Law enforcement for years now and it has made little impact the border situation. Like I said, literally tons of illegal narcotics and tons of other black market related items continue to stream across our southern border and into our country.

How do you actually know that no "sleepers" have been successful in ifultrating our southern border? Only an idiot would try so hard to to give the terrorists the benefit of the doubt in this day and age.

I agree with you about the need to stop this illegal immigration.

People, here on FR, and others we associate with need to be informed, but not called names. Name calling will only harden them against taking the right side on this important issue.
