Could you include sites that help the families of these troops? Knowing their families are taken care of would mean a lot to them.

Learner: How about a donation to the Disabled American Veterans? I've been supporting them for a long time now, and they are on the up & up. Sadly, many of the troops that will be returning to us will be disabled in some way.

We've stopped "gifting" within our extended family, too. We pool our money and do something similar. Between all of us, it's usually $500 or more to donate somewhere.
