Katz's Deli

You'll see the original "Send a Salami to your Boy in the Army" sign and if you enter the site you'll see a recent photo of a soldier in Iraq holding one of Kat's famous Salamis! What a great country we are. LOL

Hi George, here's a way to contribute towards scholarships for military children. Thanks for supporting our troops!

There was a story on the news today that the armed forces are no longer accepting packages addressed to "any soldier." So whatever site you choose, make certain it will allow you to send to a specific soldier. Or you can check the USO web site, I know they accept donations, especially at this time of year.

TAX DEDUCTIBLE Cash donations can be sent to:
Jeffrey Burgess Recreational Fund
Plymouth Savings Bank
36 MAIN STREET
BOX 3506
Plymouth, Massachusetts, 02361
Phone: 508-746-3300

This is the charity that my friend set up in memorial for a fallen Marine.

His story is found here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-vetscor/1171628/posts

The money collected is used to buy sporting goods and recreational equipment for the troops and Iraqi Kids.

I have had 2 dries so far, and am going to drop off the second load to Cherry Point soon.

Thanks to some of you who have responded positively,
I really mean what I have suggested and believe my family would support me totally as we have done stuff like this in the past.
I was taken by the " Malboro Guy " picture and while I do not promote smooking, I am a smoker and would be happy to provide his needs. Or I will help provide for his kid's needs(non smooking) as was correctly suggested.
I just want to do something....helpful.

Ah...the way it was worded, I'm sure many assumed that your children were young. Perhaps mentioning that your family planned to do this, instead of you not giving gifts to your wife and children, would have been a bit clearer. :-) My brother is in the service now, and although he would be touched by a stranger's generosity, he would not want a small child going without gifts to provide that generosity.

One thing...if you live near a military installation, perhaps your family could invite some single servicemembers far from home to share your holiday meal. I know of several people who do this and it means so much to the troops to have a nice meal and friendly people to spend the holiday with when they cannot be at home. I know that different bases have programs like this that allow community members to "adopt" servicemembers for the holidays.

Obviously, there are the usual care package/phone card/etc. programs.

Sorry. I'm probably just a little gunshy since the election. But someone with a lower-case screen name posting that he's going to forgo Christmas presents for his wife and kids to donate to the troops INSTANTLY punches my "troll alert" button.

Apologies if I am mistaken.

Thanks to you who responded affirmatively. I do appreciate it. I think this will be a great gift for our family to do. I will continue to look for good suggestions, but now will e-mail my kids and tell them what I intend to do. Dont worry, they will get something also.
George.

I think it's great you want to help the troops out, especially during the Holidays, when they are so far from their families! I found this site awhile back, looks like they are doing some things for Christmas!
