I sure feel sorry for this kid. At the same time, I sure feel sorry for us residents of Santa Clara County that have to read this crap in the SJ Mercury News. Do FReepers in other parts of the country see this sort of thing, too? It doesn't seem that long ago when foster services placed rather normal, but troubled, kids. This sort of "problem" seems too weird.

"Exploring" I think the day he enrolled in the cosmotology class, it is safe to assume he had his sexuality figured out.

The Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children's Services should be closed down.

The Bureau: The Santa Clara County Department of Family and Children's Services....."
Comment: Go down to the offices of this Bureau and take a good look at the work force. Just look and then leave.

"This teen needs a structured home that can be open to his ongoing exploration of sexual identity and gender."
Poor kid, but it's pathetic that the main thing the Family services is concerned about is to make sure the "good home" will allow his "ongoing exploration of sexual identity".
He needs a good home, to teach him what is natural and what is not. Who knows WHAT he is doing as part of his "ongoing sexual exploration".
Since he is 17, it may be a tremendously hard job, if it's even possible.
I bet he was sexually abused in the foster home and they were teaching him unnatural things, telling him that it's all right.

They have foster kids at age 17 in CA? Why not just legally emancipate the kid?

This teen needs a structured home that can be open to his ongoing exploration of sexual identity and gender. I can just imagine me going to my dad at 17 and telling him that he needs to be open to my ongoing exploration of sexual identity and gender.
I'd be wearing a chastity belt and locked in a convent before I managed to get the whole sentence out. And we aren't Catholic.

I have never read such an article in any paper in Arkansas. Sounds like what we might read in the "Adopt a Pet" of the week from the pound. Never seen a "Adopt a kid" ad. I don't think such woudld be printed. Sounds to much like a slave sale ad to me.
