Berkeley in Despair, Rage
The Daily Cal

Posted on 11/13/2004 10:19:53 PM PST by AVNevis

These comments come from Uc Berkeley's Daily paper. My comments are in parathesis:

Bush’s campaign, on the other hand, acted in a way that is in perfect congruence with the attitude of his administration: brazen arrogance and go-it-aloneness. Even before all the networks had given Bush the victory, his campaign told reporters Tuesday night that they were declaring victory. At least in 2000, the candidates waited until after the networks had made a final projection before doing so.(FOX, NBC, MSNBC all called it Tuesday night) Granted, the networks got it wrong, but at least the candidates waited. I will give Bush this much credit: He waited until after Kerry’s phone call to make his victory speech.

Without sounding too much like an after-school special, I’d claim that there were no losers on Tuesday. Bush won, obviously. So, too, did Kerry: The nation discovered that this man, once characterized as an arrogant, out-of-touch—almost European—Massachusetts liberal, was actually a great man and a classy guy.(They did?)

With all this talk of healing and unity now, I’d like to take this opportunity to sow the seeds of discord and partisanship. If there’s one thing that’s pissing me off, it’s the outpouring of civility and mutual respect following the election. If I were Sen. John Kerry, I’d be throwing furniture at random people. (Calm yourself, tolenant liberal)

The rains came to Berkeley on Wednesday and have been around ever since. No one is sure if the rain will ever let up, because ever since the truth became clear on Tuesday night, a pall has consumed the left coast. What happened? When did I fall so far out of the mainstream? How did Democrats lose four seats in the Senate and at least three in the House? Which America re-elected President George Bush?(The patriotic one)

But do not give up or think too long that you are out of touch with the United States populace because you disagree with where we are heading. Liberals do not have to move right to win, we just have to pick up the message-building and motive-obscuring tactics that have allowed the party of wealthy tax cuts to win Rust-belt Ohio.(Liberal admits to trying to obscure motive)

I take it for granted that most of the Daily Cal’s readership was less-than-excited about last Tuesday’s results. I feel your pain. If anybody had told me a month ago that President Bush would win the popular vote by more than 3 million people, I would have laughed in his face. Then, I would have paused for a moment. Then, I would have continued laughing.(Never underestimate the evil Karl Rove.)

Ooops... Looks like I mispelled the title

You can add the "re" in DISREPAIR later.

I just love the confused expression on their faces.

Since confusion is probably a permanent state with most of them, I think I would say the W is for Dubya, and the paw print signifies their getting stomped in the election. I would rather see consternation on their faces.

I'm sick of hearing how "classy" Kerry was and what a noble soul he was for conceding instead of fighting the Ohio vote. If there was even a scintilla of a chance he could have legallly challanged the vote he would have. The problem was Bush won by 130k+ votes. Kerry had no choice because he had zero case. If he were truly classy he would have conceded late Tuesday. The networks simply continued their collaboration with the Democrats by refusing to call New Mexico and Nevada for Bush so they wouldn't have to call a winner. It was BS, but expected. FOX even waited an ungodly amount of time to call obvious states in response to liberal taunts about the 'fair and balanced' tagline.

Kerry is devious, dishonest and underhanded as the worst Democrats out there. He just got beaten too badly to mount a legal challenge. Class had nothing to do with it.

"...planning on moving to Tuscany."

Tuscany's one of the nicest places on earth to live! Suggest you tell him how envious you are.

He's the toast of the town. Only problem is that bees keep trying to extract pollen from him.

I have never been to Tuscany but most of my friends have and they say the same thing. Our lefty cousin said he would invite us over when he got settled. It is unforunate but he is so obnoxious I would not vist him if he gave me the trip. He won't really move, just like Alex Baldwin won't move either.

Lucky break for the Tuscans! If he moved over there, he would do nothing but complain just like he does here. The only difference is that the Italians, instead of us, would have to listen to his whining. They are lovely people and I would hate to have one of these creatures tossed into their midst.
