This thread is really upsetting me. These people truly think they are the ones responsible for W's return and they must be rewarded. I don't know, I thought it had a tiny bit to do with national security and the WOT, but I guess I was wrong.
Yes, they are.
Leaving aside the abortion discussion, most of these are the extreme right wing of what used to be the religious right of this party; there was a time when they were in complete control; now that they aren't anymore, they have latched on to Bush's win and tried to claim responsibility for his win, thus putting them, in their minds, in a position to control the party.
It's simply not going to happen.
Most of these are what most of us have been fighting for the last five years; the Bush haters and the unappeasables.
For five years, they've been telling us if we just put a real, true conservative on the ticket, they'd sweep the country. I think Alan Keyes settled that once and for all this time.
"These people truly think they are the ones responsible for W's return and they must be rewarded."
No poor lady, we KNOW that the GOP has claimed to be pro-life for decades, we KNOW that WE vote for them because of that claim, we KNOW that the GOP now holds the greatest majority it has had since the odious Roe-v-Wade case and we want action. Either the GOP means PRO-LIFE or it means SPECTER. If SPECTER, then the GOP is toast. The choice is predetermined, the answer in the hands of the elected GOP leadership.
As usual, you come down on the liberal side.
'These people' are the majority in the GOP, whether you are aware of it or not, or whether you like it or not, Hildy.
And your confusion is obvious, when you think that pro-lifers desire to return to a culture of life is some kind of 'reward' to pro-lifers.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Ya know, Hildy, we are responsible for W's return. But if he betrays us now, we will betray him back.
At least speaking for myself, if I see that this issue is not pursued with vigor, I will NOT vote GOP in '08. I WILL stay home. I'm drawing a line in the sand NOW, and the GOP can decide what it wants to do about it accordingly.
I haven't come this far to be marginalized into some mish-mash territory of defending a country where live dismemberment of its would be citizens is put on the back burner yet again.
