I think you are right I think I read an article somewhere in which Laura said that he is untidy. I think she was saying it about books that he never puts one away and that they are sometimes piled up on the bedside cabinet.
As a young man it was definitely on the "messy side". His tailor ranked him the most classy of all presidents he has worked for.
