This thread honors the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, and reminds us of why we here at home can go about our daily business in peace. Street-to-street is the toughest type of warfare. Air cover is being flown by pilots from the USS John F. Kennedy, as well as the U.S. Air Force from bases in the area.

You got that right. What astonishes me about the naval-gazers in DC and our media is that, OK, some 22% in a proven-less-than-reliable exit poll said "moral values" motivated their vote. Well, duh, that means the votes of 78% of the electorate were motivated by something else. I don't think it takes a rocket scientist (or the media elite) to understand that the events on and since 9/11/01 affected this election outcome in a huge way.
IMO they thought the moral majority was dead. Poll numbers from 2000 showed many religious stayed home. Religious voters staying home=not something to think about=non-issue. 2004 polls seem to show GOP and Dems that the religious pushed the election into Dubya's side. Now, they're surprised and miffed they must grapple with this group AGAIN. And quite frankly, many politicians look down or away from religious groups because religion makes politicians uneasy.
9-11 woke up more than the secular world.

As I follow this thread I notice a lot of folks wondering what they can do to help our heroes over there. Direct support to the troops can be done thru the USO (
http://www.uso.org/) or to Any Soldier (
http://www.anysoldier.com/index.cfm).
Support that is a bit more indirect, but is designed to help our troops get the Afghanis and Iraqis back on their feet as democratic (and I don't mean that in the DNC/DU sense of the term) nations ASAP and thereby get our brave men and women back home ASAP can be done thru Spirit of America (
http://www.spiritofamerica.net/).
Look em over. Decide how you would prefer to help. And then, please, give our troops a hand!
If anyone else knows of other effective organizations that we can help our heroes thru, post them on this thread!
God Bless Our Brave Troops, One and All!

Reagan said that he wasn't allowed in combat because his eyesight was really bad...I knew there was some physical reason -- don't know where I got it in my head that it was a football injury. But now that I think of it, you're right.

Thanks, Ernest. I don't know if it will be possible, but I'm hoping to keep this thread going as long as the Battle of Fallujah goes on. Only a small way to honor those on the front lines, but small is better than not doing it at all.

Thanks for the article, Ernest. Too bad the leaders of these terrorist thugs always run away, like the cowards they are. Despite how they rant and rave about becoming martyrs, they always seem to want someone else to do the dying. Well, even so, I'm delighted the terrorist scum are in disarray.

Please, don't take this the wrong way, but don't be ridiculous. So what if it is a woman? Does she have any less of a reason to fight for those she loves? Is her life worth more than a man's, or less? I just don't understand why it makes a difference if that is a man or a woman.
