Not arguing the verdict, but preponderance of the evidence is for civil trials. In criminal trials, I belive the phrase is beyond a reasonable doubt.

Yeah, poor choice of words on my part. Doesn't change the overall meaning though. They found what they needed within the legal definition, and did what they had to do.
