A few years back, our county DA got convictions in a circumstantial case on six men who were found guilty in the murder of a co-worker at a papermill. I really didn't think the DA would get a conviction--I thought he was trying to convict a cloud--but he did. Of the six men, five are still in prison. One was successful in his appeal to the federal courts; the rest failed in their state and federal appeals.

It was at that point, I gave up trying to predict what juries will do.

Anyone who bought a two-day fishing license could have done it.

Wish he'd been in charge of the OJ case...

Ironically OJ Simpson was cast as the first Terminator.

Yes, California has executed 10 people since the death penalty was reinstated in 1977.

Scott is lucky he didn't commit this crime in Texas. Texas has executed 22 murderers this year alone, and that's less than last year's pace.

How could that be?

I guess they (Court) let the family know ahead of time before letting the press know

Other then that ... I have no clue

He lusted after what he should not have. That drove his behavior into evil.

Weight of the evidence is always up to the jury. At least in my state, there's a whole arcane group of instructions that's developed on the issue of circumstantial versus direct evidence. But a jury is allowed to give equal weight to circumstantial evidence, in its discretion.

Given his profile, I'll bet she was a temporary obsession.

Our Troops in Fallujah is by no means a slow news cycle.

I meant the murder happening over Christmas Eve that year.

Most of the legal experts said the evidence was not there.

You haven't been paying any attention at all, have you? It's a classic circumstantial evidence case.

And all the ones I saw said GUILTY; that includes Fox, CTV, and MSNBC.

I remember the glee in the media when Richard Jewell was branded as the bomber! The whole trial process, as well as the operation of the government, has been reduced to being props for the entertainment industries, including the media!

I don't know what happened, I have a gut feeling, but to replace three jurors, including the foreman, and then reach a decision in one day, I believe the whole process has only generated more work for the lawyers, which I also believe is the primary function of the whole legal system.
