MOVE over Matt Katie Couric's new squeeze is a boyish-looking jazz trumpeter named Chris Botti.
The musician, 42, who has opened for pop star Sting and is promoting his own CD, told USA Today that he's nuts about the morning show pixie.
"She's brilliant and beautiful and really, really fun," Botti says of Couric, 47. She knows about music, "but then, she's up on everything. She's so intelligent."
Rumors about Botti and Couric have been swirling for weeks. She recently broke up with Red Sox co-owner/media mogul Tom Werner.
Couric first met Botti on the set of the "Today" show a few years ago when he showed up to play backup for an appearance by Sting. They were more properly introduced a few weeks ago at a party in New York and have been dating ever since, he says.
"It's been interesting going out in public with Katie, but this is all very new to me. I'm taking it one day at a time," he says.
Botti has been named one of People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People," and has worked with Joni Mitchell, Natalie Merchant and other music stars. He joined Paul Simon's band in 1990 and worked with the singer for five years....

Translation: She's got money.
In other words: "... as gay as a spring day." :)
He sounds hard up for a woman.
Whoa. He ain't too swift. He don't look too straight, neither.
Seemingly, a "barf alert" might well have been in order.
He blows too.
Oh brother. That figures. Sting, Madonna, Gwyneth, Katie. One big bunch of arrogant, pretentious, America-hating liberals.
jazz trumpeter named Chris Botti.....
He's played in heavy rotation on the Miami lite jazz station and I assume other lite jazz stations nationwide. He makes good music.
and we care ?

And he's so pretty, too. Look at those highlights. I bet he spends more time doing his hair than most women.
Lots and lots of money, more money than your average studio musician.
Isn't he the one doing that cheesy commercial for his CD on television? My wife and I laugh at how corny it is. It reminds us of sixth grade dance, awkward, uncomfortable and slightly lame.
He's prettier than she is, and he ain't pretty.
As gay as an Ungaro spring frock.
Of course it doesn't hurt his public profile either.
Please tell me he's from Europe and Katie is moving there.
