Bush revives bid to legalize illegal aliens
Washington Times ^ | November 10, 2004 | Bill Sammon

President Bush yesterday moved aggressively to resurrect his plan to relax rules against illegal immigration, a move bound to anger conservatives just days after they helped re-elect him.

The president met privately in the Oval Office with Sen. John McCain to discuss jump-starting a stalled White House initiative that would grant legal status to millions of immigrants who broke the law to enter the United States.

Hey, we could appeal to murders and rapists too - just grant them amnesty.

So, by your logic, all Mexican immigrants are the moral equivalent of murders and rapists?

I am legitimately asking this question, not just trying to sandbag you. Do you really believe this?

They're thieves (at the least) - many are murderers and rapists - check the crime stats.

I would agree with you that many immigrants are our crime problem, not just from Mexico, but from other areas of the world.

"I can't claim to know what Bush does love, but it aint' God, country and family. He loves power, he loves money,"

Um yes, he does love God, this country and his family. Love power? Are you saying the President of the United States should loathe power and despise it? It is his job, he is the most powerful man of this nation. Love money? Who doesn't. But I tell you one thing, Kerry loves money more than Bush or anyone else does, why did he become a Gigolooooo?? Money money money monayyyy, monayyyyy.

"There is no shortage of American workers. Just a shortage of American workers who want to work for an obscenely low wage."

Well, uh, duh. LOL. If Mexicans are willing to work for the lower wages, so be it. Let them do it.

I don't have the time tonight to point out all the ways in which your comment is harmful to the country, so i'll try to keep it brief.

What you have proposed keeps both the standard of living AND wages artificially for certain classes American Citizens. This takes what might be reasonably paying jobs away from Americans, because were we to disallow illegal people from working, wages would have to reach stasis with the job market before anyone would perform them. This is a good thing. It is called the "free market".

The free market doesn't work when certain industries are allowed to skirt (as in outsourcing jobs to Malaysia), oroutright break the law (as in hiring illegal Mexicans).

The gentleman who builds homes was a perfect example. He cannot hire American workers if he wishes to compete.

I don't see how that can be good for the American worker.

This country, thank God, is still a melting pot.

No, it is not.

Hispanics are NOT assimilating. We are, in the words of Bill Clinton, now a "salad bowl."

Not a single one of us is going to do a damn thing about it.

Wanna make a bet on that? Several Freepers here in Cochise County are highly active in hunting down groups of illegals and turning them in to the Border Patrol. Quite literally, thousands of them -- the Freeper contingent here is now way into the five-digit numbers. Right now I believe I'm running in second place to a female Freeper who never learned the meaning of fear or political correctness.

It's still only a drop in the bucket, though. Last year the Border Patrol caught 235,379 in this one rinky-dink county -- their guess is that four times that number made it through here safely.

Pilot, we are talking about the LAW. BREAKING THE LAW.

Illegal activity. Criminal behavior.

This is not civil disobedience, or rebellion against unjust authority. These are the borders of a sovereign, just nation. There is a right way to do this, and a wrong way. I oppose amnesty programs. It's a reward for criminals.

Changing the law is fine, as long as it's done legally. The criminals who are already here, however, need to be deported and barred from reentry. They are CRIMINALS!!!!

Well IMO if Tancredo ran for President he's sweep the Western States in a blow out. We're sick of it down here (Illegal immigration).

For starters: everone can go to this map on the NumbersUSA site and click on your state to see how your representatives are representing you re: immigration:

http://profiles.numbersusa.com/

Go here to the NumbersUSA site and get on the bandwagon -- also pass this information on to friends and family and get them involved, too... tell them the election may be over for 2004 but we have very long memories and will remember this when the next election rolls around:

This is connected with NumbersUSA and has a link to Tom Tancredo

We need to bring pressure through the conservative talk shows, too.

Cool link. My Rep. is already on board to oppose this.

Funny how all Florida Democrat Reps are aligned with Bush on this issue. Stupid policy move.

He'd get the Carolinas, Georgia, and Tennessee to name a few. No doubt about it.

"Okay all you blindly loyal Bush supporters. Bush got re-elected as you wanted. Many of you said that if we all would just re-elect Bush he wouldn't try and ram this amnesty-lite program of his down Americans throat, against their will. Many of you also said you would deal with this after Bush was re-elected. So, how about it?! How do you plan to deal with it?! Or was all that talk just blow-hard bluster?!"

Just because you have been a member her longer than me, doesn't mean you can't make troll like statements like this one. And this one sounds like one to me, even if people are dissapointed with what Bush has done in this situation. That's all I was saying.

At least you kinda answered my question, which was how many more? Besides the huge increase in unemployed day laborers from you and your dad's day, there are entire barrios/towns that have thousands more just sitting around la casa. If you dare, you can drive down many streets in Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino counties and see the men sitting on their porches playing cards during week days.

So my point is valid. We have more laborers than we have jobs, at least in the areas above. So how many more should we let in. Got a number?
