Bush revives bid to legalize illegal aliens
Washington Times ^ | November 10, 2004 | Bill Sammon

President Bush yesterday moved aggressively to resurrect his plan to relax rules against illegal immigration, a move bound to anger conservatives just days after they helped re-elect him.

The president met privately in the Oval Office with Sen. John McCain to discuss jump-starting a stalled White House initiative that would grant legal status to millions of immigrants who broke the law to enter the United States.

The USA can't make it without immigrants. See Thomas PM Barnett's Book the Pentagon's New Map: http://www.thomaspmbarnett.com/index.htm

It's not much fun, but we've got to deal with the millions of Mexican illegals who work productively in the USA. Let's argue over the details of Bush's plan.

Barnett is a globalist of the first order. You're willing to sell out our national identity, and the just laws of a sovereign nation so that your hedges and annuals will look nice?

Our man and women are being killed and maimed in far off Iraq while the enemy is filtering into this country. And Bush dares to offer amnesty to these criminals. Sick.

It seems the Democrats purposely threw the election. If they had focused on family values and protecting our borders they would have won big.

Here's a good take on Barnett, if you're interested, from a Libertarian perspective. http://www.lewrockwell.com/stromberg/stromberg66.html

I don't thnik I would go so far as to say they purposefully lost-- except for the Hillary 08 campaign.

I don't see them doing anything different as far as border policy. The difference is that nobody in the Dem party cares to resist it like we do.

I voted and donated to elect him with the full knowledge that he'd likely cling to this unlawful policy obsession. My attitude was, "You'll be a good president, but you don't have to get everything you want."

If he wants to legalize the unlawful, he'll find an opponent in me until all is explained and a deal offered. Any deal would have to include bringing the employers who hire these "slavelings" to justice. It's the employers.

Bush is now a lame duck. He'd be foolish to waste his capital on his inexplicable loyalty to the ever-French Vicente. Someday someone will have to explain why he's so hung up on Vicente.

You know Barnett is a liberal Kerry supporter, right?

Any deal would have to include bringing the employers who hire these "slavelings" to justice. It's the employers.

With all due respect, it's not "the employers".

Are you (or any in the "it's the employers fault" crowd) aware that once a prospective employee shows an SS card and say a DL or 'State ID', that said employer is FORBIDDEN by EEO laws to even check to see if they are valid and not forgeries. The employer can be 1000% POSITIVE that they are fakes but he can't do SQUAT about it - Nada, zip, zero, zilch, NOTHING. The employer must accept them on face value - period.

And how many times have 'you' read an article about an employer getting a form letter from the SSA saying the account they've been sending money to for six or seven years DOESN'T exist. Then and only then can the employer confront said employee about this 'discrepancy'. It's then that we read some sob story about this 'poor immigrant' who had to flee from his/her job because their SS card was fake.

Then there's the scores of 'immigrant rights groups' that will be suing said employer for intimidation and discrimination and filing grievances with the EEO - all for free but costing the employer thousands in his lawyers fees!

So please, everyone, STOP with the employer bashing. Give the EMPLOYER some rights to investigate obvious fake ID's, or give him the RIGHT to refuse an obvious ILLEGAL a job.

In conclusion, blaming "the employer" for the illegal problem, is like blaming matches for fires.

Well, just remember, Kerry wanted to make 'em citizens.

Still, this was one of things I didn't like about Pres. Bush.

Thank you for stabbing us in the heart, Mr. President.

Good grief! Take a Midol.

The sad thing is he is right. We don't have the population that wants to work at the jobs that the illegals are in. Case in point meat packing. If the wages today were the wages they paid packers in the 70's, maybe we could get more people to work in it, but face it. The population is aging, and the numbers of young native born workers in the US is declining.

I don't like it, but it is something that the US has done to itself. We have chosen not to rear up the next generation, and now have to pay the price.

Mr. President, enforce the law as is your duty, and we'll talk further.

Didn't you read Ashcroft's letter of resignation: "The objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved.

If he says that America is safe from crime and terror, then it's okay to open the borders, right? Why are you shaking your head at me? ;-)

I'm actually OK with a worker visa program.

Here's how it should work.

Kick out all the illegals who are here now, and let in people who have been identified and approved on the visa to work. When the visa is up, they can apply for an extension. If they lose their job, they have a reasonable amt of time to find another, or else they have to leave.

Rewarding people who broke the law ahead of people who applied through the proper channels is plain wrong.

If Bush legalizes the aliens without controlling the border the flood will overwelm the United States. There will be a revolution and I will not be with the Bushies. I voted for the bastard but I will not drink the coolaid.

There is coming a time to fight and I don't mean politically.

My sister works in a company where this is a weekly occurrence. Within minutes of notification, she has a check in hand and is on her way to the illegal to give him his walking papers.

Wow...that didn't take long. So much for the conservative "mandate". I wonder how all those red border states feel after being stabbed in the back.

Better brush up on my spanish. Viva Bush! El conservador compasivo!

According to sound bites on the Laura Ingraham show this AM, Sec'y Powell is telling Presidente Fox that we are going to initiate reform slowly. I believe the comments ran something like, "Mr. President, we are going to take small bites of the enchilada, you can't have the whole enchilada right now."

As has been pointed out, however, reform is meaningless without adequate border control.
