Howard Dean considering bid to chair Democratic Party

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) Former presidential candidate Howard Dean is considering a bid to become chairman of the national Democratic Party.

Steve Grossman, himself a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said Dean had told him he was thinking about it.

Dean was traveling today in New York and unavailable for comment. His spokeswoman, Laura Gross, said ``it was far too early to be speculating on that.''

The 240 members of the Democratic National Convention will elect a new chair early next year. Several names are already being mentioned, including former Clinton aide Harold Ickes; Donna Brazile, who ran Al Gore's presidential campaign, and Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack.

Dean has been outspoken since the beginning of his presidential bid in saying that the Democratic Party must establish a separate and unique identity from Republicans.

The next chairman will replace Terry McAuliffe, whose term is ending.

Exactly. Howard had better stay well away from DC and Ft. Marcy park if he pursues this line.

"There is no way the Clinton's are going allow this lunatic to be chairman of the Democratic Party."

Actually he's not a lunatic. He's just stupid. That scream came from Gore. Gore was the first big name to jump on the Dean bandwagon and had lots of advice for him, including screaming. You notice Gore does a lot of that when he's in his "preacher" persona.

Dr. Dean is bound to get the South back for the democrats with comments about "God, gays and guns..." I think the democrats should just call Dr Kevorkian instead.

yes, i have to admit if howard dean gets named to the position, it's going to be REALLY hard not to vote democrat. i mean, he's so popular, and innovative. he invented the internet ( along with gore ), and he's such a calm, reasoned kind of guy. and hillary clinton can be the candidate. michael moore can be campaign manager, and osama can be in charge of foreign policy. barney franky can be gay marriage counselor, with ted kennedy in charge of rounding up the drunk and depraved old men group. al franken and dan rather can be campaign spokesmen. now...THAT'S THE TICKET !

Great choice. Doctors have such great organizational skills. Just think of how smooth and efficiently your own Doctors office runs. He'll fix the DNC up alright.

If you have the bandwidth, these are pretty funny, too. Don't have a drink in your mouth when listening to them. I am not responsible for damaged monitors!

This is a great idea!! A political party that is losing ground because of its far left policies wants to bring in a presidential loser in to drive the party even FARTHER to the left.

Some people would note that this is clear evdence that the Dems are truly insane. I want to offer them my thanks for guaranteeing future Republican wins.

Either Dean or Brazile would be outstanding kooks, er I mean *candidates* for this position. But I think I'll burn up one of my DU accounts and start/encourage a campaign for Michael "Cheeseburger" Moore as DNC head. Why go retail when you can go wholesale (destruction of the democrats, that is)?

There is no way the Clinton's are going allow this lunatic to be chairman of the Democratic Party.

Why not?

We almost had lunatic for the First Lady.

They were willing to go along with that, were they not?
