A nightscope image made from TV of US soldiers outside Fallujah hospital, Iraq (news - web sites), Monday, Nov. 8, 2004. US forces stormed into western districts of Fallujah early on Monday, seizing the main city hospital and securing two key bridges over the Euphrates River in what appeared to be the first stage of the long-expected assault on the rebel stronghold. Mexican-born U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Ardo Ramos writes a letter while Lance Corporal John Bishop of Indiana sleeps, during a break at a base near Falluja in western Iraq (news - web sites), November 7, 2004. The Marines are preparing for an expected full-scale assault on Falluja and Ramadi, another rebel-held Sunni Muslim city west of Baghdad. The offensive is part of a drive by Iraq's U.S.-backed interim government to pacify the country and enable nationwide elections to take place on schedule in January. REUTERS/Eliana Aponte

According to www.imdb.com, most of the soundtrack was based on "Sgt. McKensie," which was played during the closing credits.

Awesome movie, by the way. Mel Gibson has been in movies featuring virtually every major war the US has been involved in. I think he's missing the Civil War & WWII to be complete. Not bad for someone who spent most of his youth and adult life in Austrailia.

Mansions of the Lord was composed originally for the movie by Nick Glennie-Smith; the lyrics are by the director, Randall Wallace, who wrote the movie Braveheart, I think. (Sgt. McKenzie is a briefer section)

Mansions was written for the movie, and they played the movie recording at Reagan's funeral.

As I read this thread, I am watching "We Were Soldiers" on TNT. It is the first time I have seen it since the Swifties and all other Veterans once again answered the call of duty to our great country.

What an emotional expirience it has been for me. I am humbled by your sacrifices and honored by your bravery.

God Bless each and everyone of you.

May God be with those preparing for battle in Fallujah.

From what I've heard on the gun boards, the AKs being issued to the Iraqi Defense forces are not re-issued enemy captures, but are being newly made in Poland on a US contract.

If Polish, they well may be some of the best AKs ever produced - probably far superior to what most of the "insurgents" are running around with. Notice the black - probably synthetic stocks.

I'm assuming they are sticking with the 7.62 47s rather than the 5.56MM 74s - using commonly available ammo I suppose.

In some footage on FOX News tonight, I could swear it showed a bunch of US troops (Marines I think) piling into an APC with AKS and other Soviet style weapons instead of the usual M-16s, A-4s, SAWs etc.. I wonder what's up with that?

Joshua 10:7-14

"So Joshua marched from Gilgal with his entire army, including all the best fighting men. The Lord said to Joshua, Do not be afraid of them; I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to withstand you. After an all-night march from Gilgal, Joshua took them by surprise. The Lord threw them into confusion before Israel, who defeated them in a great victory at Gibeon. Israel pursued them along the road going up to Beth Horon to Azekah, the Lord hurled large hailstones down on them from the sky, and more of them died from the hailstones than were killed by the swords of the Israelites. On the Day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel: O sun, stand still over Gibeon, O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon. So the sun stood still and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a man. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel"

Heavenly Father,
Just as You gave Joshua victory over his enemies, we ask that You also give American soldiers victory over our enemies. Father, go before them and fight this war. Be with each and every soldier. Give them quick reflexes and supernatural strength. Alert them to any hidden dangers and let nothing take them by surprise. Give them a calm heart and wisdom when faced with difficult decisions. Be there shield and there strength. Bring confusion to the enemy. We ask for a miracle because we know that with You all things are possible! Father, let the US win this battle and all future battles, before it starts. We are the nation who dedicated our country to YOU at its birth, so we ask that You look on us with favor. In Your son Jesus name we pray. Amen
