Preparations ... a US marine camped outside Fallujah, expected to be the scene of Iraq's bloodiest battle yet, writes his "zap number" on his kit bag. The number contains information on his social security number and blood type, to help with identification in case the troops are injured.
At the ready ... troops bags are packed at Fallujah, where they await the order to launch an attack on the town. One report says 300 rebels have volunteered to act as suicide bombers in a ferocious counter-attack on any coalition assault.
Games ... to ease the tension, the troops have had to find new ways of entertaining themselves, staging games over the weekend.
There was some entertainment to help the troops kill time ...
... but also work to be done. Here Marines take a briefing from their on plans for the days ahead.
God help us ... Marines from the 1st Division gathered to pray yesterday afternoon near Fallujah. An order for the assault is expected over the coming days.
Meanwhile, civilians are leaving Fallujah. These men were headed for Baghdad yesterday, their ute loaded with household appliances. The US military warning any man under 45 entering or leaving Fallujah will now be detained; they are also advising women and children to leave.
[The declared state of emergency for the next 60 days]...comes after a recent spike in violence nationwide. Even yesterday the attacks on Iraqi police continued - this car was blown up in Baghdad while in Haditha, 21 officers were rounded up and shot in the head.
US Army surgeon Tommy Brown, working in the centre of Baghdad, makes a phone call to his wife. He says he has slept for three of the past 48 hours and is preparing for the fallout from the anticipated attack on Fallujah.
Held ... Iraqi TV showed these prisoners who are alleged foreign fighters, caught coming in to help the raging insurgency. At least one, a young Palestinian, confessed on television to a plan to help the rebel groups.
Danger zone ... Major Scott Taylor of the British Army's Black Watch force leads his brigade into position in accordance with the ancient traditions of the fighting unit. They have taken up "forward positions" in the Sunni triangle to free up US troops needed at Fallujah.
In place ... Maj Taylor, his bagpiping done, takes his position at the Jurf al-Sukhr bridge.
We pray every morning that the Lord would give our soldiers safety, and victory, as WELL as soldiers of Israel! My the Lord God of Hosts have mercy on our enemy. They're going to need it.
Mansions of the Gods --- you probably recoginized it from President Reagan's funeral.
in the beauty of the lilly's
Christ was born across the sea
with a glory in his bossom

as he died to make men holy

God, please protect these young people who make such a great sacrifice for us. Please give their loved ones peace and trust in Your glory.
Must be a Brit.
Defenders of Freedom
Defenders of Freedom, thats what we are!
No battlefield too dangerous, no region too far.
Well march thru the desert with sand in our boots,
To search out a tyrant, take aim and shoot.
Well crawl thru the jungle, hide out in the woods,
Sleep in a foxhole, Go for days without food.
Well fire our weapons, drop bombs if we must,
Unless evil surrenders, its Baghdad or bust!
From the tortured and downtrodden we hear the call;
Well hammer away till dictatorships fall,
We want the needy to know that theyre not alone,
Even tho some of us wont return home.
Well lay down our lives so you can be free,
Leave our loved ones behind for your liberty.
From Saratoga to Somalia, well sacrifice;
From Shiloh to Saigon, well pay the price;
From Omaha Beach to The South China Sea,
Wherever were needed, thats where well be!
Youll know when you see the Red, White and Blue,
Well defend your freedom because thats what we do!

I recognize that one but it's not the one I'm thinking of. It plays as they enter the choppers to head unto the battle field and again when they leave. It's got a distinct military sound to it.
I do wonder though where Phil Collins stands on this issue?

Just so you know, the Dixie Chicks are ashamed that the Marines are from The United States.
(I was going to put a sarcasm tag on that, but I think I'll leave it alone.)
P.S. Any chance we could get Moore embedded so he can make another 'documentary'? /evil thoughts
Unless you have someone in particular, or an outfit that you'd like to adopt a trooper from (What I did, got a line on a company sergeant and asked for him to point out the guy that got the least mail and care packages) go here:

Freepmail MACVSOG68 and ask him. He gave me a QM seregeant's address and says it's good, the stuff will get there. I am sending baby wipes, baby powder and this week a box of books.
BTW if you can on e-bay you can get job lots of stuff at low cost. I was talking with a relative who had been there with the Army for a year and he said personal hygiene stuff and games are great.
